Hi

I have unplugged the RCD200 Head Unit in my polo a couple of time to look at what space I have at the back.

So far every time I’ve plugged it back in, it has shown “SAFE” followed a few seconds later by “LEARN” and then started working again by itself.

Suddenly it has now gone from “SAFE” to “1000” probably expecting me to enter a code?

How do I get it to learn its code again?

not familiar with this system but there may be a code for it in the car handbook? usually, inputting that will work fine (on other standard systems, like my 6n2 for example).

I could be barking up the wrong tree but at least it's a start...

Unpluging most stock units wipes the radio code so you will need to get a code for it from vw if its been lost

Well,

the modern day VW headunits are car specific, I.e. It's mated to your chassis and ECU.. If you look on the radio it'll have your chassis number on it!

But.. You shouldn't have to input your code if its on your car. Have you tried it with the ignition on? Simple thing yes, but easily done.

if not check your radio booklet which should have the code on it. If not ring up VW.

If you have the original handbook, there should be a little card in the folder, like a cardboard credit card. on this should be your radio code, along with your paint code and other useful/useless stuff.

I left it for a few days to see if it would sort itself out and “LEARN” the code again…it didn’t.

I also had a look in the manual for a code, there was no obvious car/paper with such code so I tried 1000 to see if it would work…. it doesn’t

Looks like my only option is to go and see one of the dealers

The code is on the inside cover of the audio manual that came with the service book pack of your car - it's a perforated card that forms part of the fold-out cover. Hopefully it's never been detached & lost, so it'll still be there.

If there's no card then a dealer is probably the best place to be. Depending on the age and model of the audio, some codes are found from the serial number, later models have to be connected to the dealers equipment for them to read/reset the code. I've got a VW unit with no code, I tried using one of the services advertised on eBay to get the code, it turned out that mine is one of the units that would have to be sent away to be connected to a computer and the code either reset or found from the unit, the cost was going to be quite a bit. In the end a dealer did it, they charged me £10.

Edit: I was also going to add, now that the code is entered I can disconnect the battery and reconnect without having to re-enter the code. I was told that you only need the code again if the unit is taken out of the vehicle its been used with and moved to another car - ie sold or stolen. So far its worked like this.

Every time I work on a VW the radio learns the car again and pairs up fine.

Disconnect the radio completely with the ignition off.

Whait a couple of minuets and plug it back in.

Now turn the ignition on and then turn the radio on.

It should learn if done in this order.
