club polo rr day

Featured Replies

Had a really great day and that mini.....boom.

My results with my 6n Valver were -

123bhp at the Fly

94bhp at the wheels

130lbs Torque

BMC CDA Induction Kit, Favhrenugen Chip, Raceland Stainless 4-2-1 Manifold, Stainless 2.5" straight through de-cat.

Happy with my results but did expect a little more....next carbs and cams and see you there next year :)

I'm pretty damn chuffed to be honest! Even if you round it down to 160-165bhp I'm still smiling!

Wish they'd bought some ink and/or cleaned the jets on the printer though..!

I had a good time too, it was good to see some familiar faces etc. Andys car was impressive, what happened to Yoof's? I was mainly there to see that make 240bhp!

Bens polo made it home of course, so did Chris's mini (despite his efforts to break it whilst racing everything possible on the road), sadly though my land rover did not!

Hahahah thats an awsome piccy Tom!

I have more pictures of broken land rovers than I do of working ones!

I wish I had filmed him dragging it on to the bed with all the wheels locked up!

It sounded soooo bad driving it in to your unit!

Did well getting there and only 45mins from home tho, but yer i would'a like to have see it gettin dragged on.

I gota say tho i'd like to see the roof rack a lil more loaded up!

What happened to it?

Looked sick tbh

Transfer box started to eat its self about an hour in to our trip down, towing the trailer with his mustang shell on, we diceded to carry on and see how far we got.

Got the Mustang to the acid dippers, the rollers and 85% of the way home LOL

It was seriously sick!

Thanks though, its my pride and joy.

It's still not got an engine in - build thread is here.

Was pleased that mine made decent power, and glad that Chris' AAV turbo more than delivered the goods too - it felt quick during mapping. Landy looked purposeful - good luck getting it back together!

Andy, what do you think could be the cause of both mine and martins double hump curves?

Looks strange we both had the same 'issuse'

With just torque/speed to go off it's hard to say, I'd guess Martin's is probably an AFM set-up issue (using a Golf AFM) which could be the same with yours (stock AFM?)

If you'd have had a wideband up near the manifold it might have shown it, with one in the tailpipe you get damped results.

Pete

Yer i was running a stock AFM, I was going to weld in an extra lamba boss in the manifold(i still might).

We plugged the car in to a hand help diagnostic machine after my run and it showed up a fault with the blue temp sender, but i didnt thing the temp sender had much i any influence to the air/fuels at that stage.

If its faulty then it will have negative effects on bhp. It will still be relaying back to the ecu that the coolant temp is low, causing it to add more fuel in than at normal running temp.

I'd did go rich toward the end of the pull (0.87 on the lambda, not sure what RPM) so maybe thats all it was, i haven't download the data yet.

If the coolant temp sender's open-circuit, Digifant assumes a coolant temp of 60°C, i.e. warm engine.

Measure the resistance of the blue temp sender with the engine up to temp, should be circa 300ohms from memory. It's not uncommon for cars to have an open-circuit fault logged here, as the BTS gets unplugged whilst setting the ignition timing. If the engine stalls whislt timing it up and is restarted with the BTS unplugged, it logs a fault.

With reference to this thread here: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...0&hl=lambda

I was having pretty bad idling issues, since I got the car it would never idle 'smooth', I changed the blue temp sender (looked like pretty new VAG) for a known working VAG part and also changed the cap and rotor arm as they were filthy; wouldn't even keep them as spares! Changed leads for a known working set too. This was all on Sunday after the RR day.

The idle is spot on now also, with the GTi AFM; will be reverting back to the GT AFM at the weekend though.

Guy- I think the wheels figures were spot on

Kerrly- I'd get your car in for a health check and have the cams setup, something's not right!

Well it is odd. Last year prior to having the bottom end swapped for a much lower millage one the car made 228hp (fly) at Storm Developments when on the same day 3 mk2 gti 16vs with mods were making 140-160hp.

Only a few weeks ago the car was up at D&G where it got a full once over which included clearing a few fault codes, soldering a wire on the throttle position sensor and reconnecting the inlet manifold temp sensor prior to it being remapped. After the remap the car ran better than it ever has done, smooth low idle, loads of power in the midrange an with the increased rev limiter it would pull to 6800rpm.

The one thing that i can think of is that my car had been sat on tickover for 10-15min before it went on the rollers so the coolant/oil temperatures were quite a bit higher than they would be during normal driving and without sounding too harsh the fan set up at Aldon was like a hair dryer which cant have helped.

EIther way , good day out.

lol we were both running the same motor but look at the differance in the power curve lol

yeah theres a big drop off on mine, i'm still running the 1 liter spi fuel pump tho so it maybe some thing to do with that. Its apparent when being driven too so i'm gonna fit a golf gti pump i've got lying around and see if it sorts it out

You'll deffo need a different pump - the SPI one is quite a high flow rate, but low pressure (1.1bar).

Don't know if the owner posts on here but this was just unforgivable...

but slicks stick to the road better....right?

Both rears man, I was shocked when I saw it. Anyone who moans about getting static off the fuzz for driving a modified car has people like that to thank for it!

Fortunatly it was a dry day, and they were on the back, but its the principal that annoys me.
