I'm taking a guess it my break switch but just wanted to make sure

My break lights have just stopped working, all the other lights work fine, reverse light etc, just not the break lights

hi there mate, it could be any number of things it could be a bad earth, a broken fuse or moisture may have got in or it could even be the unlikely but possible both bulbs gone, my bet would be the fuse. but i'm a student (motorsport engineering degree, so i just design components, not so good at fixing them) not a mechanic so i wouldn't take my word as gospel......

Not sure on 9n but on 6n2, if brake light switch is at fault, EPC light comes on. Try a known working bulb, swap the fuse (after checking if it's at fault) then I'd check earth as suggested previously.

buls,fuse or switch can only be one of 3 surley

^damaged wiring, or as said, bad earth. My old man has just replaced his switch on his 9n, it had broken and the coil light had come on. So if this hasn't happened, check the fuse. Or get a voltmeter in place of the bulb and have someone push the brakes. If you have current, it's the bulb. Of not, and providing everything else is on order, most likely be the switch. You could just try a switch though, only a tenner from vw

Yeah my EPC light had come on before and thats when they stopped working, but now my EPC light has gone off and they are working fine.

So is it advisable to get my brake light switch changed ?

How intermittent is the fault? Run it for a while and see if it's ok. Failing that, new switch. Not a hard job really. My dads 75 and did it in an hour!
