right got a car, apllied for v62 last thursday,

can i insure the car in my name, but get the old(current keeper) to tax it online,

also he lost the logbook , so he hasnt got the reference number if he rings up can he get that information ?

When i taxed my motor, i got the ref number from the current owner and taxed it myself. Only issue there is it will go to the owners house when it comes through so you'll have to get them to post/give it you back. Or if you trust them give them some more money to get it taxed first.
