How the hell did you manage that I managed to get my polos one to 76.2mpg average and that involved sitting behind lorries with a very light right foot on my half hour drive to uni.

Slipstreaming my friend ;) and coasting long distances in neutral where possible. For example, at the top of a hill on the m25 (near lingfield ish, the one with a crawler lane) i popped it into neutral an let gravity do the accelerating. At the top i was doing 60 by the time i was at the bottom i was doing 75!

People say coasting is dangerous because of the loss of engine braking, but if you're attentive, and in control, its perfectly safe.

I find adjusting speed for gradient helps alot, keeping the consumption steady, so letting the car slow down on hills as opposed to trying to keep the speed and using more throttle.

That was the average for a 56 mile trip too! It took ages for it to come down when i was driving like a loon that afternoon

Rolling road today ! I'll be sure to take lots of pitchers ;)

Sounds good, what power diesel is this and have you had it mapped?

One thing that makes me wish mine was a diesel is the sheer amount of tunability they seem to have

115PS , printout to follow, unmapped so far, just a little "tweaked" but very happy with the results.

De-cat and EGR next, then a map perhaps? :D

De-catted it :) Best mod yet :) The turbo spools up much more freely and theres an oddly satisfying poof of unburnt fuel on any tailgator you wish to leave behind

Gonna stick some fake brembo covers over those discs?

Are those 288s that come on the TDi?

Want to get some nice drilled discs for mine but sooo tempted to do the LCR Brembo upgrade first.... :ninja:

They are 288's on the GT yeas..... Are the LCR brembo's 312's? I went in a mate's R32 the other day and the stoppers on that are phenomenal!

Edited by dirt_monkey

Lcr brembos are 323 or something I believe, I've got 312s on mine but it could do with a little more stopping power!

Awesome! Must admit I wouldve loved an R! Brakes on those ar 330 something aren't they?

  • Author

They're 332mm iirc, enough to rip your face off!

It had a resonated magnex backbox on it so made a noise like God having a "crisis".....really really tempted by one but I'd be utterly raped by insurers!

Just whack some decent pads and discs in yours and it should improve it no end :) EBC reds would probably go nicely :)

Same... I keep finding myself hovering over the "add to basket" button for a resonated Miltek catback system but I really should stop spending money on the car for a while..

I'm already building up a bit of a love/hate relationship with mine, I'm starting to dislike the amount of times the fuel light has come on and how I seem to get through £15 in two days whilst seemingly barely driving the thing! Not to mention I'm already jealous of your peak torque, that along with the fuel economy keeps making me wonder if I should have gotten a diesel

That said though, all is forgotten when I get inside, put my foot down and hear this -

 God knows what a Miltek would sound like if that's the stock system!

I must get the lower fog lights, they make the front look so much nicer, more modern as well!

See I miss the excitement of petrol cars with a nice exhaust note! But the torque is fun. I'm looking to get a FMIC soon so the fogs may not be staying for long :?

I want to sort all the aspiration out before mapping so I can get the most out of it, 210 Ftlb is standard , 300+ is easily achievable!

Get the Miltek on my behalf! :p

What were you planning to do? R32 DSG ducting? :-D

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/404536.aspx

Well if you decide to lose the fogs and want to sell them send a PM my way 8-)

Will do mate ;) I probably won't do the .:R duct , I'd make something up myself if I were to do it from regular cold air feed ducting :)

What decat pipe did you get in the end?

I'm running a 90 Bora :o for insurance issues and going for more power, the egr delete is on (allard pipe) thinking of the miltek downpipe but not to sure on the decat yet...

Once thats sorted a pd130 intake will be sorted and then a map should see a 90 up to around 160 BHP with 250ish tourque.

Looks clean though :)

It was a powerflow kit mate. I almost ended up with a 90 bora, they're bombproof engines the AGRs. I doubt that a map would add that much, most people see around 40 extra horses at best.

Also, theres no point in spending a fortune on a milltek downpipe if youre gonna shove it straight into a stuffy standard cat!

You should look into T4 injectors (.216), I have a friend who's done that mod on his non-PD golf, I'll ask him about it , although that'll need a custom map or you'll smoke like a bad disco!
