looking through yahoo i noticed this I'm sure there taking the fun out of motoring now adays with this :/

The Government has introduced a new generation of average speed camera that can track motorists across entire networks of roads.

The first versions went live on a stretch of the A13 carriageway that heads from southeast Essex into East London on January 31.

Existing average speed cameras only monitor a car's speed between fixed points on the road, but the new models are capable of consistently tracking a vehicle.

The latest system has 84 cameras and 37 average speed monitoring points - it can even keep an eye on drivers entering and exiting a stretch of road.

RoadPilot, a firm that specialises in speed camera detection devices, has warned that this could be the start of an average speed monitoring system that spans the UK.

Chief Executive of RoadPilot, James Flynn OBE, said: "If this system proves successful, it could be extended or rolled out to other locations, all of which can be linked together.

"Taken to the extreme, the entire UK road network could, in theory, be linked up under one average speed monitoring system - meaning Big Brother could always be watching you!"

RoadPilot's speed camera database has already been updated with the new, advanced camera sites, so users of the company's products will be alerted to their presence.

I don't mind speed cameras but when it gets on to tracking everywhere you've been I start to dislike it. I mean it seems like you can't go anywhere or do anything these days without being watched. Yet something happens where by you need some CCTV evidence and some how its never there or it gets lost.

They obviously want people to speed to an extent. With all the technology they have these days they could put things in signs that link up with your car and physically won't allow your car to go over the limit. Surely thats possible if they really really really don't want people to speed.

this is ridiculous as if it weren't bad enough already with all these speed camera's

not saying i agree with speeding but if this were to happen its only going to slow down the motorways even more

and i would like to know how much this whole scheme is likely to cost

exactly if they really wanted to prevent all major accidents on the roads then all cars would be limited to like 10mph

they just realised they messed with the wrong fucking mexican

theres bound to be some breach of rights in there. i dont know the ins and outs but is there not some legislation that says the goverenment isnt allowed to track you without due cause. itd be similar to the pay as you drive thing that went tits up because it involved tracking were you were going, or that was one reason anyways. on reason I'm glad I'm not on the mainland. we only have half a dozen or so speed cameras in the whole of the province

cool so if it does come in over here its a ferry to ireland for some good b road fun

Very much doubt this will go ahead, if anything they will use it across the motorway network and that's it.

Motorway's aren't fun to drive along anyway!
