French cars

Featured Replies

Basically me and my dub mates hate most french cars with a passion, there are some exceptions such as R5 turbo, 205 gti etc but do the majority of dubbers dislike frenchies? Are you the kinda person who isnt really fussed on the country a car is made or a die-hard dubber who hates everything that isnt german?

Dont know how this thread will go but we shall see!

What a stupid thread, but I will contribute. I owned a saxo and everything that could go wrong did therefore I dislike Citroen cars, that doesn't mean to say I dislike all french cars.

I bet there's an equally gimpy post on a Citroen forum about VW's and german cars. zzZZZzzzZZZzzzZZZzz

My mates got a VTR not bad little cars tbh pulls well and handles like a dream better than any polo could with his setup!

Having said that the build quality is horrendous and feels like its going to fall apart.. Good ol polos are far better built and can look muchos cooler 8-)

French cars don't really make good dub cars with the exception of a few.

I had a mk1 phase 3 clio as my first, was a nice comfy car. being a 1.9 diesel it was rather slow as hell but it was clean tidy and got me everywhere. After i finish uni this year, I'm going to be buying a clio williams for me and the misses, well for me really. I dont mind french cars, they can be plasticy inside, but toherwise I've had no problems with any I've driven.

i like the original citroen ds........

Well I'm not fan of French cars but I love the old French cars like the 205 Gti, 106 rally, Willams Clio, Renault 5 GT Turbo

^^^ the only french cars i'd consider because of their obvious perks...but they're all build like shit. weve had two meganes in the house hold and they were constantly falling to bits and the renault master van i had for work was shocking. dubs have their down days but are much more reliable overall and easier to work on!

I've not found that when driving french cars, yes some are built shit but then so are some vw's. All have their pros and cons, depends what you want from a car. Dubs have the large backing so it is a good place to be.

Some french cars have a likeability but just mainly the mad ones clio v6, R5 turbo. all cars can be unreliable the most unreliable car i have owned was my mk4 Golf R32 and I've had a couple of frenchies. but there is no denying the french build quality and feel is rubbish.

So it seems the more powerful mad french cars are favoured?

mad french cars are good, maeserati engined citroen ds rally car? yes please

actually owning a french car to drive every day... fuck that

I'm a car person.. I like cars.. There are some cars I like and there are some that I don't. Disliking a car just because of the country it came from is stupid in my opinion. :)

To drive French cars are superior in every way to VW's, but they're not put together aswell (not nescessarily unreliable just lots of squeaks and rattles usually and the trim is flimsy).

i had a 106 quiksilver and it was a decent lil car

well it was until it was hit by a lorry lol

compared to vw they made some hella fast, fun stuff

I agree. I've had a Peugeot, couple of Renaults (and my dad only drives Renaults (apart from his Daimler)), vauxhall and a couple of VWs - they all did the job! In fact it was my Renault Clio that saved my wife's life when some joyriders hit her in the side at a junction. The ambulance people said they thought the driver would have been dead when they rolled up:

Edit: She was travelling in the opposite direction to the way the car is pointing!

HEE HEE as a member of the punto forum aswell there has always been much teasing between the french (VTR ,VTS brigade etc) and us and trying to claim who is better and to be honest as I've owned a 205 gti and R5 in the past they are just as bad as each other for build quality but for pure excitement the 205 is up there ,yes if you dared to cough any where near the body work it crumpled and both the french and the italian built cars are like driving around in a quality street tin .

In my experience VWs are built better and so more reliable at times but the Punt always puts a smile on my face when i take her out every now and then.

x2, especially French vs German.

I cant think exactly but I'm pretty sure German-English relations have suffered a few hiccups over the past 100 years.

Jeepers mate hope everyone was ok ?

Jeepers mate hope everyone was ok ?

Aye, she was lucky - just got whiplash. And then contributed to the hike in everyone's insurance as we got 2 and a half grand compensation and the same again for the Clio which we spent on a holiday and a cheaper Megane respectively!

Otherwise, that Clio was a nightmare - spent so much on it and spent so much time on hard shoulders at ridiculous times of night!

There are good and bad french cars really. German cars are better put together everyone knows that but they do cost more.

French cars can be good value for money, fast and fun just depends what one you get, alot of people go on about saxo's handling well but i have driven a few and never thought they were better then most small fwd cars.

German cars are good but they are over priced in my view

Btw clio 182's are brilliant and fast!!!

205,r5 gt turbo, clios are WIN but hate the rest pritty much
