I had problems when i first got my clio, had twelve months ticket on it, but some how had nackered sus, siezied front brakes. and few bushes were. Lets just say my dad reported the guy, he is a trader(some one ma dad has known for years). After 300 quid a full service and day later it ran perfect. to be honest its been the best car I've had to drive. Both mk2 have been fun and so has the mk2 scirocco. I laugh when i hear people saying i hate french.

i'd love a 2cv, the renault 5 gt turbo was my childhood dream car.

on my wish list would be a clio v6, peugoet 205 gti, citroen hy van

when i first started driving i used to drive my dads company cars, he always had peugoets but they were all wank.

they would have to much technology that would constantly go wrong due to it being made on the cheap.

Had 2 Saxo VTRs, a Mk1 and a Mk2. Neither were standard. The Mk1 was cammed, 4 branch, decat, system, lowered, blah blah. Was pretty nippy, handled very nicely if a bit tail happy until I brought the rear end down a bit more. Power steering pump packed up on it, that's all that went wrong. The Mk2 had a full system, filter and it was remapped as well, it wasn't a huge amount slower below 70-80ish than my Golf GTI 16v, and with decent tyres on it stuck to the road incredibly well, saw more than one car understeering onto the other side of the road trying to match it's pace. It did 2 coilpacks and a CV joint in my ownership but that was it. It got 8k miles of abuse, the Mk1 got 14k miles of abuse.

Sure, the interior and exterior panelling is properly badly made, but mechanically they aren't the worst. Both of them would average mid 30s mpg on a thrash, and 50 mpg on a run.

If I saw a low mileage late VTR (03 plate or thereabouts) in a nice colour in good nick for not a huge amount of money I wouldn't hesitate to get another, and I'd certainly have one over a VTS.

I like Peugeots. Not particularly the pocket rocket ones but the normal pre-2000 ones. I've had a few Peugeots and they proved to be

the most reliable cars I ever owned. Dturbo's are probably my favorite french cars.

Oh and any classic french car makes me smile. I imagine them all rattling around the french countryside with baguettes in the back. :-D

Not really, they're definitely better than new French cars for the fixing point of view, but they're still horrid to drive and have a Citroen badge.. If I was gonna buy an old car it would definitely be the BMW 2002.

Have you drive a slammed 2CV/Dyane? They're piss funny to drive, and it doesn't cost anything to lower them just some time with a spanner ajusting it all. I've not got any experience with recent French cars apart from fitting bulbs and hands free kits at work, they do look like a pig to work on though.

French cars don't really make good dub cars with the exception of a few.

any one that says they hate a car just because of the country it was built in is pretty stupid imo, even more so when they are driving a 'german' car that was no more built in germany than my house was.

Vw's love rust just as much as any ford or pug of the same era. Mk1 golfs and scirocco's are just as bad for rotting to the point of no return as mk3 golfs, 6n polos ect, and don't even get me started on the beetle

germanys reputation for well built cars wasn't even down to vw, it was companys like bmw and merc. Vw just made cheap mass produced cars, and if cutting back on stuff like rust proofing kept costs down and profits up then so be it.

If you turn your nose up at a car just because of where it was built then your no a petrol head or car enthusiast (sp), your just a pissy little fan boy. You'll also miss out on driving some amazingly cool and fun cars but i guess that leaves more of them out there for those of us that can see passed the badge on the grill

same is true for the vw beetle tho, both cheap and easy to fix and have a good following. Both also carried on being made for longer than they should and both were shit cars, but they weren't built to be good cars, they were built to be cheap.

I'm driving a Saxo VTR at the moment and after a little bit of work they handle pretty well. I've had it for almost a year now and it has never broken down on me once whereas I know people who own polo's and they have spent a lot more money fixing their cars in a year than I have sorting out minor issue's on my Saxo.

My brother has a 6n which I sometimes drive and I love driving that as well.

I don't see the need for people to hate on a car just because it isn't one that they have or they own. I think it's more to do with the stereotypes of a Saxo for example that makes people dislike them.

I wouldn't say I hated any kind of car. I just like some more than I like others

i've only had bad experiences with electrics on my old pug, pretty much everything went on it.

to be fair though nothing mechanically ever went wrong, even though i faffed with the engine turning the fuel and boost up, very strong engine.

I've actually had more trouble with VWs than french, but they are so much nicer to look at and appreciate. (except 6ns )

absolutley with you 110% on that one. 106 and 306s were cracker cars back in their day. iv been through a few of them. any pug i had iv ever had has given no more or no less hassle than my dub

Citroen Xsara VTS is another one, even better handling than a GTi6 and probably the only car I could do dafter stuff than my Clio in, and that spent more time sideways than in a straight line lol.

I got banned from Cliosport for doing some similar driving round Jct 31 of the M62 in Cas, and also the only car i've ever been congratulated on my driving with by a traffic cop, after I came flying round the Burger King roundabout near the Cineworld with the inside rear a foot off the floor then perfectly handbraked into the car park and into a parking space haha
