Polo9N3 GTD attempt

Featured Replies

Been lurking on here a fair while now but never done a readers thread. The story so far is that I've had pretty much every performance polo now from G40's to GTI's but with a new job and lots of traveling i had to get something sensible that does loads to the gallon.

So i bit the bullet and bought a dirty diesel 9N3 polo sport:

This was as i got it after a bit of tidying up, nice to drive and got 70-80 mpg all the time so couldnt complain....i just missed having my GTI so i decided to set out creating a GTD like VW had done with the golf. All the looks and handling of the gti but with tdi economy :-)

I wanted all the GTI parts other than the engine so:

-Full GTI interior with subtle changed to gti badges ie changed to GTD, trip computer etc

-exterior looks, bumpers, skirts, spoiler, green tinted glass etc.

-handling improvements, top quality coilovers for daily driving comfort and looks plus some GTI wheels and decent tyres.

- Performance improvements, GTI brakes all round, GTI rear beam, front mount intercooler, performance filter, decent re map.

Now done most of this, just at winter ride height at the mo and have some 16" BBS RS waiting to go on for shows this summer......

May rebuild with 2" dish at the rear but not sure yet. Here is a teaser though.

Thanks for looking, any feedback is hapily received, bad or good!

Been busy and got a few new goodies sorted for the car.

GTI beam and full disk brake set up....what an improvement!

img0208ty.jpg

Also been busy with some lovely textured 3M carbon wrap that turned up this week. Been waiting for it so i could add some finishing touches to some genuine GTI door cards with billet ali handles.

Started learning how to use the stuff by doing simple things such as the door puller inserts and tray fronts.

img0209bd.jpg

Started to get the hang of it so attempted something a bit more complex....turned out pretty nice too.

img0203rg.jpg

Here are the steps i took to break down the complex curves.

Firstly tackles the top curve and slit the holes so they could be stuck to the inside.

img0195et.jpg

Once the front face was stuck i then began applying heat using the missus hairdryer which worked better than i expected. Once warm and supple i could then stretch the material around the side curves and work out any creases. The last process was to stick the excess to the back of the badge.

Final bit of trimming and its done, pretty pleased with the outcome!

And fitted to the grill and then car.

Thats it for now but more goodies due soon including some lower grills from the US.

Keep the idea's coming folks!

Thanks again for the comment guys!

Tried all sorts to get the bottom grills off but still to no avail, am currently plastic welding up another bumper to be smooth so ill just put the new grills on that.

Taking delivery of a new polo gti soon hopefully so it may be up for sale if i cant find a GTD golf engine.
