coilovers... EPIC FAIL! help please

Featured Replies

i brought a set of jom 100mm coilovers, me and my friend fit the first two front springs and lowered the car of the jacks, but then we noticed that the bar with the alen key at top just shot up in to the engine bay :( my mate seems to think we should have took the top mount of old springs and fixed them to the new ones, is this correct?? because i have no idea. lol

any help would be great

thanks levi

is it a big job? do you have to compress the springs to do this? cheers

your not the first to make the mistake lol a person on here did it,put his wheels back, bonnet down, wasnt until it was dropped off the jacks that the shocks pushed up into the bonnet.

either take the mounts off the old shocks, using compressers

or better still pop to a motor factors and buy new mounts

EDIT. and mount bearings

Exactly this is why there are those in Goverment EEC circles who want to ban us from fixing our own cars, pretty soon it going to be illegal to do an engine swap at home. Its going to have to be done by a garage. who will charge you for the privilage.

on mk3 phil j kits have you to remove the bump stops of your standard set up and use with the kit provided?

hello mate that sounds like you undone the wrong bolts if the top hats fell of and shot up there should be some other bolts where the suspension is located in the engine bay 2-3 bolts on either side, however you shouldn't have to touch the coilover's when fitting its just a case of out with the old in with the new.

hope that helped :) :smoke:
