Basicly wanting too see how people have gone about boarding/carpeting the rear out of there mk2/mk3 polos when you run with only front seats?

Just looking for some ideas as i have a cage in mine and want to tidy the rear up a bit

haven't got a cage in mine but u get the idea cheep to do aswell role of lino some mdf 8mm an some 2x3 for frame bout £80 oh an some realy sticky white glue evo stick or bond cant remember now i did mine in boards so removeable well two inner boards one for spare wheel an one tht hinged up an had a little storeage area an had sub an amp and blue cooling fans removed now but still have will be puttin back in as lowerd 80mm an deffo dont want to have people in the back so no seats no problems lol

oh an i know i need to redo middle upper board as it doesnt line up very well

atleast it gives u an idea

I've got no pics of mine but i bought a big roll of audio carpet and trimmed it to just sit over the whole of the back area IMO looks alot neater than wooden fake floors

Bilco did you remove your rear bulkhead and how???? I thought if you removed it the back end would be a bit wobbly.

What are the rules in regard to removing seats and MOT's?

While i know most of the mot stuff for exterior items this is one area thats confused me, I dont normally have any rear belts.buckles anyway but always re-fit them for the MOT in case.

I dont carry rear passengers anyway so having seats or not is no real issue.

I dont carry rear passengers anyway so having seats or not is no real issue.

If you have seats and no seat belts it will fail, if you have seat belts and no seats it will fail.

Remove both it will pass.

Flat/false boot floors are a popular way of getting audio into cars and look well done right.

A full rear seat out version is a different install alltogether and does have a major safety issue that I have to obide by for insurance/manslaughter reasons!

If you build a frame to fix an mdf/ply top to always run the longest lengths across the car and not front to back, with the front to back pieces staggered and never meeting end to end.

That way a rear end collision will not drive a 5ft wooden stake through the front seat ocupants!

Look at the first pic in this thread and you will see what I mean.

The top cover piece should follow the same rule and be done in pieces longer across the car than front to rear, so it folds in a rear impact.

Did a quote for a customer with a polo last month (and did him a vw owner discount :-) )

He went away and did it himself with his mates and made the above mistakes.

But you live and learn. ......or maybe not if someone rearends you at the lights!

Iv got nothing but a strut brace, battery and fuel pump in the back of mine - stripping is to make it lighter imo, so why fill that with speakers/carpet or whatever

And iirc for the mot, if its tested with 2 seats you can only use it with 2 seats - il check on my certificate when i can find it

Also id be wary of driving it with no seat belt plugs - if you get pulled youl have to try and prove that you never take anyone in the back, too much hassle if you ask me

^^ Correct of 1983-on cars. MK1's can have rear seats without belts.

Does anyone know how much the rear bench and belts weigh?

I dont want to remove mine,i just wanna know how much my car would weigh without them,as its already exceptionally light for a MK2.

they hardly weigh anything mikey, get alot more road noise too.

i still stripped mine anyway excuse to ditch the bus dodgers.

i like increased road noise, adds to the thrill lol

Yep, it's just a flimsy metal sheet so I got the angle grinder out :)

The brace is from ebay - a universal jap one, cost next to nothing. haven't bolted it in yet as I'm yet to start the suspension so will do it all in one go,

as for road noise. haven't driven it yet so i will tell you when i know. I plan on cutting the complete rear floor out and adding a mini space frame for my center mounted exhaust and berg style diffuser
