Flat/false boot floors are a popular way of getting audio into cars and look well done right.

A full rear seat out version is a different install alltogether and does have a major safety issue that I have to obide by for insurance/manslaughter reasons!

If you build a frame to fix an mdf/ply top to always run the longest lengths across the car and not front to back, with the front to back pieces staggered and never meeting end to end.

That way a rear end collision will not drive a 5ft wooden stake through the front seat ocupants!

Look at the first pic in this thread and you will see what I mean.

The top cover piece should follow the same rule and be done in pieces longer across the car than front to rear, so it folds in a rear impact.

Did a quote for a customer with a polo last month (and did him a vw owner discount :-) )

He went away and did it himself with his mates and made the above mistakes.

But you live and learn. ......or maybe not if someone rearends you at the lights!

Thanks for this, as you can see i made mine with long bits of wood going front to back and has made me think about the rear end crash thing. The bits of wood underneath do run the right way, but the wood ontop would not fold and i dont fancy one of them bits of wood coming thorugh my back in a crash. Might have to rebuild mine, so its a bit safer. cheers.
