The fucking police are trying to fit me up with no insurance,

Well i've got a letter from my insuracne saying that i am insured to drive any think* Called them up and the star means i can only drive 121bhp max, But now they called them today and my insurance are saying no I'm not insured to drive any other car so the police are calling it driving without insurance which is £200 fine and 6points and I'm still in the 2years bit so i will lose my driving license

But do i have a leg to stand on and fight back ? i have the letter here stating i can drive other cars.

How old are you? You have to be 25 to have that "privilege". As far as I am aware no insurance company offers that to under 25's!

What exactly does your letter state? does it state it on your actual motor insurance policy?

its very unlikely you have insurance to drive other vehicles, they dont often allow young drivers the ability for 3rd party insurance on other cars, and most insurers have stopped offering it altoegether.

was the car you were driving, that you got stopped in, registered to another person and insured in thier name?

if your not insured and its not your car, be lucky you didnt get done for twoc.

if your the registered keeper, and the car does not have its own policy, its illegal to drive it full stop

if your not the registered keeper and the car has its own policy, it is legal to drive it, should your insurance cover you 3rd party on another vehicle.

post up exactly what your insurance policy states on the matter.

I'm 20 and I'm with quick fit platinum and on my main certificate its got allows me to drive any vehicle not belonging to me under 3rd party risks

so i rang them and they said yes thats correct i can drive any car as long as that car is insured and dosnt belong to me.

maybe ill ring them back too to clarify dont want this happening to me

id always clarify in person and get it in writing, if you have that information and keep it in the car, you can produce it to any plod.

I have a letter from the DVLA stating there is no law to state the amount of miles you can drive an untaxed and unmot'd car for a pre-arranged MOT test, when I was driving 170 miles to my prefferred MOT tester, along with all other documentation. That way I could be sure I had all the bases covered.

Good luck anyway mush!

I've got all docs in my car always do easyier to produce there and then

I can speak from experience on this, its written on most Direct line policies, and its also stated in their 'policy wording' book that you can drive any car not belonging to you that is insured by another person - you can drive it on a 3rd party basis.

Called direct line to double check this before starting driving round a Ford Ranger.. Was told no it is only for over 25s.

^ yes

my hastings insurance is the same, over 25.

Right,

A word of warning - two companies I have been with Direct Line, now CIS / Co-Op.

I spoke to someone initially at Direct Line. I asked can you please clarify that I can drive other cars third party, fire and theft - 'yes sir, you can'. I am under 25, so I thought, hold on this does not sound right. Called them back and explicitly stated that I was under 25, does this still apply, they then change their tune immediately and say I can't/ Exactlty the same happened with Co-op/CIS.

Now I remembered that they say they may record calls for training and fraud purposes. Ask for a recording of your phone call, I think they may have to provide due to the freedom of information act. At least then you would have some evidence and combined with the letter you could produce this at a police station.

Also talk to Citizens Advice Bureau - they may be able to help.

Good luck - I was proper pissed when they told me I could't drive other cars after telling me I could initially. Incompetent or what.

I have always had the 3rd party privilage on my policy, and I'm 21 now. My policy does not state that the other car has to be insured by its owner.

I have been asked to produce my documents twice now whilst driving a car not belonging to me that was not insured and both times everything has checked out ok. The second time the copper was a bit funny about it and he rang the MID and all sorts but he came back with the OK in the end.

A copper once checked my 3rd party entitlement over his police radio too.

This will probably stop if the DVLA get their wicked way and insist that all cars that arent on SORN will have to be registered on the MID or you get £100 fine.

I had a little look in to this, and came to the same conclusion as above and just to add i also found that some companys remove this benefit if your connected with the motor trade.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Only companys that do this is; Quinn-Direct and Kick-fit

But quinn-direct got to expensive, this was a couple years back so it might of changed now.

I've been covered driving other cars 3 party only if it was insured since i was 22, and i have specifically asked for it to be added on to my policy even after giving them my age and it is with Adrian Flux...

My ex had a restriction on his insurance when he was 21, he could drive anything smaller than the car he insured 3rd party... luckily he had a 2ltr capri!

So if the polo you were driving is under the bhp your restricted to and its written on your policy as what you are covered for then it should cover you... if you have it in writing then they cant really contest it over the phone as you gave them your date of birth so knew your age when they put it on your certificate.

Hope you get it sorted and dont get the stitched up dude

well I'm 21 and got a fully comp with aviva on my gt and in the documents it states that i can drive any other car in the event that mine is of the road or being repiared, which is nice to have and made the 1400£ seem more worth it.

I was with direct line and they suck you have to 25 as already stated, just check thro you documents to see if your covered

Insurance covers you to drive (1) car only. If you own another car, you have to insure it on a seperate policy - the right to drive another car is on usually on the proviso that it's already insured to be on the road. From the sounds of things you've missed a really key bit of small print

Unlucky, looks like youve been caught out. Get to a solicitor and try and blag it id say.

why post a forum topic, if youve not even prepared to answer anyones replies.

waster man

Technically your wrong,

It coveres you for as many cars as you want to put on the policy.

for example. on my policy, I have the polo, the clio and the audi (which needs removing). 3 cars, one policy, one policy holder. All that ther restriction is on is the NCD, can only be on one car, cant share it.

The only was he can have DoC (driving other cars) if his underwriter permits it or he is 25yrs old +, then this should be a standard

This info if on your insurance cert underneathe the vehicle info. it will say the driver is permitted to drive blah blah blah

To drive any other car, it needs to be insured by someone else yes and you will be covered 3rsd party only.

but yes, you can have 100 cars on a policy if your rich enough

:p

oh, btw I work in insurance......

which company do you work for, i tried to insure all my 3 cars, and would have preferred a single policy, every insurer told me i needed three policies and as such i had to go with admirals multicar policy (which is good in some ways, as it gives a years ncb on each car)

I work for more than but youd need to fit into specific requirements for our car insuraqnce....... its shocking,

Personally (and I hope work are not watching) but Id go with Admiral as the cover is far superior to the rest of the market at the min, and yes insuance is high, but you get what you pay for right?

Also good cover is available from Budget (known as bisl group - Budget insurance services limited) so intermediarys such as auto-trader, M&S, yesinsurance.co.uk..... all these supply multi car policies.

all you have to do is ask them.

insure one car, then say, look, I have another car I want to insure.

Its not a widely known aspect of insurance tbf and only been looked atr since admiral started advertising it.

but they have the best cover about at the min

i tried tradewise, as i am forever buying new vehicles, fixing them up and selling them on, I'm not an official trader, I'm not a registered business and i have no affiliation in the motor trade.

i found it an absolute struggle to try and get trade insurance, despite ringing people like tradewise and the like on recommendations from brentacre and flux.

only 2 days after my premium was taken out with admiral, i got a ring from peacock insurance who stated they can insure my on a trade policy despite no affiliation with the motor trade. whether this was a ploy to try and get my business i dont know, but its all a very grey area and it makes my head hurt =[

admiral sorted me out before tbh when someone crashed into the back of my mk1 gti, as the other party was with elephant and it was all sorted in-house, so i didnt have to pay excess, didnt lose my NCB and got a decent payout.

The fucking police are trying to fit me up with no insurance,

pwned
