Mk2 Golf GTi 16v Restoration Project

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Its been a while since I've been on here, mainly due to not having a polo anymore. Although I'm thinking about getting another one. Anyway the other day i picked this up for the grand sum of 200 quid, with a snapped cambelt. It was nice and local to me and an old mate owed me a favour so I got it recovered back to the unit for free.

Its pretty well spec'd with electric windows, central locking, sunroof etc and for the price I couldnt be happier. However like most golf this age, the tinworm has taken its toll in all the ususal areas.

However I was glad to find that the interior is absolutley mint, with not rips or tear. And not stains. Also the carpet is in really good nick too.

The plans are to get it absolutley mint. New panels everywhere where its needed and fresh paint in a new colour, Audi Dolphin Grey is my current favourite, but i have a tendancy to change my mind. Also full strip down of all components and sand blast and powder coat if possible. I'm quite lucky as I have access to a sand blast booth and a powdercoat booth.

Then i need the donor car to finish it off, a mk3 gti 16v so i can retro fit the air conditioning, EFI, engine and any other goodies I can get my hands on. I'm really undeicided on what wheels I want as there are just too many to choose from.

I definately want it ready for next year, but if i can get it done sooner I will, but being a student in bristol and the car is in plymouth it might take a while lol.

Cheers

Great colour already though, small bumper GTi's are sweet. Be keeping an eye on this, love a good resto thread :)

I hate the colour it is now haha! I keep changing my mind about the colour, my daily is a nice colour that this would look really nice in, but also i love dolphin grey. I'm definately getting some new small bumpers to finish it off when its done.

I'm ordering all the repair panels at the end of this month when my money comes through. Turns out my dad threw out my old mig welder so I have to add that to the shopping list too.
