My point is you say that polo owners really want a golf because it's the 'better' car, but it's not always about which car is better, if it was then vw would never of been able to sell a single mk3 golf lol. Contrary to popular belief polo owners don't cry themselves to sleep at night wishing they were successful enough in life to own a golf

ah..well they are..its the same with all cars..you have the high end hatch golf,megane,astra e.c.t and then you have the smaller cheeper ones..polo,clio,corsa...if money was no object you would go for the golf,astra,megane because its thr better car...nothing wrong with a mk3 golf.

if money was no object I would drive a golf? Mate if money was no object I'd drive a Ford lol (rs200 to be precise). As it is I could easily afford a golf but I drive a polo, and a golf isn't a high end hatch lol, its just a bigger hatch than the polo both range from poverty spec to well spec'd.

And the mk3 golf is a terrible car, by far the worst mk of golf ever made. how can I take you seriously when your trying to preach about how amazing the golf is when you say there's nothing wrong with the mk3?

tbh I wasn't thinking new car prices, I was thinking more along the lines of older cars which like for like seem to be not far off each other (mk1 golf gti probably being the main exeption?).

I loved my old mk2 golf 16v but I wouldn't trade my mk3 polo for one, yes its the better car in every way, but the polo just makes me smile in a way that the golf never did and I can't really explain why. There really is no argument, for the most part the golf like for like tend to be the a better car, but that doesn't mean that every one that owns a polo secretly wishes it was a golf. People seem to love them because they ain't perfect, probably in the same way that people love old beetles, they are properly shit cars but people still love love them and spend the sort of cash buying/restoring/keeping road worthy that would buy them some amazing cars, but they choose the beetle.

I agree, all of those polo's are amazing (except the 4x4 and that red 6n) BUT going back to what Max said - we're talking about the standard cars...

That's really a question of taste Sam,both the 4x4 and red 6n were expensive and/or labour intensive to build - note the entire profile of the 6n's body side has been re-profiled. Silly wheels cant take that kind of effort away.

No they're not. They're more expensive because they cost more to build,for using more materials and labour. And they go on to pollute the environment more in fuel for having to carry the extra material,having already done more environmental damage being built in the first place.

To say a Megane is better than a Clio suggests you're still at school. Clios are more fun to drive,but some people need more interior space so they have to compromise and go for the Megane.

The MK3 Golf is a major compromise,it was built primarily as a safety example,advertised on its then-impressive crash test results,but was not enjoyable to drive.

And any Polo is better than a Lambo for me,i wouldn't want the penis extension and i need more seats so a Lambo is useless. It depends on what you want at the end of the day,which is what its all about.

And its all about the pure and simple fact that,whether putting time and effort into an old one,or ordering a new one from a dealer,some people choose a Polo over a Golf for reasons that dont include financial restraints.

Before you start getting personal (and talking complete bollocks infact), you forget I know a lot of things you've done that I don't think you'd be very happy posted on a public forum....

I'll slate very low cars all i want, i drove one for ages and for that reason I've become to realise its fucking stupid making your car scrape the tarmac everywhere and putting wheels an tyres that dont fit on it just so it looks good, it's dangerous in some cases (I know my old car was, partly why i've scrapped the old shitheap!).

At least I've done it and I can back up my arguments with good reason and experience an not just spout shit because I've read it on a forum. I can appreciate a hard stanced car, but they ain't for me anymore.

Golf may be better than a polo, doesnt make me want one. There are probable several cars out there better than a polo for the same price range, doesnt mean id get one of those instead.
