I'm with 1st central insurance there reasonable oh an I'm onli 18

1.4 as a first car = expensive shit.

tbh try admiral, adrian flux etc...add your parents/guardians to your policy as named drivers..but honestly a 1.4 at 17 is going to be expensive

i used quinn on a 1.3 mk2 at 17 and that was £967

Depends on the car itself and area more than anything - not just engine size alone, I insured my 1.6 for a hell of a lot less than what most people on here seemed to be paying in the same year when I was 17, modified wheels declared as well.

hiya i have found the longer you can leave it befor insuring the better for example:

If i tryed to get insured on my polo 1.4 having held a full licence for less than a month i get a quote of £4000

If i leave insuring it till i have had a full licence for 3+ months i get a quote of £1600 so thats what I'm going to do

thanks jamie

My first year was with Quinn... Not too bad really - £1,800 fully comp. Renewal for some reason was £200 MORE :? Comes down to 1200 if i go TPFT when i renew in 2 weeks.

Try getting a tracker or immobiliser or something fitted. It makes it a whole lot cheaper when you say you have one when you're searching for quotes.

cheap and insurance at 17 does not go. especially if modded.

specialist insurers usually arnt too good until your 19.

try elephant/admiral, add parents as named drivers, took £1000 off mine adding mummy and daddy

sorry mate its not going to happen, i'm 20 with 3 years driving and i cant get a quote of less than a £1500  and i paid £650 for the last 2 years.

its a very bad time to get insurance especially for modified cars as most insurers avoid them and those that like mods hate young drivers!

I think you've been done a bit, I had a quick look the other day and got quoted £1100 with mods declared, 19 & 2yrs ncb, that was the first quote I got. Jus didn't wanna go with that company cause no good for engine mods.

But yeah, cheap insurance at 17 = buy a scooter

Tbh the work I did on mine it would happily sit at 65 and pull to 75. (gps speed not speedo btw, was well off the clock haha) and you could get a nice ped and mod and insure for half what your current car insurance is

I'm in the same situation.. 1.4 8v at 17 rediculous amounts, I'm going with the co-operative insurance as they're okay. But there is not much difference in the price of a 1.0 6n to an 1.4! Seems silly to me.

Probably isn't much to a 1.6 either. Insurance is just a complete ripoff but you can't be without it

hmm.. It makes me laugh that I could get insured on one of our farm vehicles (Daihatsu Foutrak 2.8TDX) for £900 fully comp! and a 1.0 is nearly 3x that!
