thats what i thought phil the only thing i can decipher about it through his somewhat vague answers to messages is the car was exported in 1999 but the owner moved abroad in 2006 i assume he tried to import it to wherever and found it was to expensive unless he is hoping to return to the u.k one day and so he,s kept up payments on the garage but either way this guy has no legal right to sell if he doe,nt have any letters of administration from the keeper plus if he does sell it cannot be re registered over here until the owner is traced and confirmation is given or unless the paperwork surfaces so really its only good for spares to be broken up would be a complete waste of a good car in my opinion shame

If the owner has fallen behind with the rent then the owner of the garage has the right to recoup this money by selling on the contents of the garage or even just disposing of any thing that's left in there. when the garage is owned by the council this is often done by using outside contractors. Once in his hands its his to do with as he wishes, if he wants to aply for a log book for it he can fill out the correct form and send it to the dvla with a check or postal order for 25 quid. The dvla then send a letter out to the registered keeper telling them that some one is applying to be the registered keeper and giving them two weeks to reply, if they don't then the new log book will be sent out. Now it probably won't be that simple for this as its been exported, but it won't be impossible and I would imagine it would follow the same kind of course.

The council generally try to contact who ever the garage is registered to and give them the chance to pay the amount owed, but some times the details they have for them are long out of date or the owner just ignores them because they know the rent is going to be more than the contents of the garage are worth.

It would be fucking hilarious tho if that did happen, some one thinking they were clever getting themselves stung for some thing like 3k plus costs. Just remember peeps, eBay is a binding contract and if he is.playing by the rules and hasn't done any thing wrong, he is well within his rights to take you to a claims court for the price you bid and any costs that entails.

Of course the car will of been broken into, how else is some one that doesn't have the keys going to move it? The council should have a spare key to get into the garage but these do get miss placed or some times people put extra locks on the garage that the council won't have the key for.

look I know some one that does this as part of their job and I'm currently helping them restore a mk1 golf he got in the same way.

a mate of mine has bought a camper two years ago first he had to pay duty tax on the vehicle for re importation then he had to have the vehicle transoprted to a vehicle inspectorate to check all the numbers i.e engine etc vin plates that they were correct then transport to mot station for test and then apply for log book when he went to do this they took nearly three months to get back to him and the reply was we cannot contact the registered keeper to confirm this so we are unable to issue you with a log book for the vehicle it sits on his drive at the mo doing nothing all it is good for is spares
