As title, my girlfriend's 1 litre mk2 breadvan is giving up the ghost so would like a replacement engine for it asap! 1.3 (3F) engine preferable if anyone has one as i believe they are a straight replacement. If not, what else have you got that would be a pretty straightforward swap!? 1.3 golf engine?

1.3 golf carbed is a straight swap, though may need to be fiddled with if going from 4 to 5spd boxes (gerar linkages, not engine itself). 1.3 engines are similar, but fuel injected. If you could get a carb and manifold, you could do a straight swap (bike carbs?) or you would need the ECU and associated wiring

Aha, thank you. So a 1.3 golf engine with carb would be a direct replacement, along with the 5spd gearbox from the golf? (With some linkage mods etc as the polo is currently 4spd). Do you know what engine code i should be searching for?

you really need a MH or a 2G engine which is the standard 1.3 Mk2 polo engine, these come with 5 speed gearboxes but these are simple to fit, if you get a crash damaged one that would be ideal as you can get the rev counter, ARB, Gear linkage etc.
