i had this when i brought my 6n2 and it kept cumming up when going round gritty roads and found out its just the way the brakes are made they are easily exposed to grit getting stuck in them it should go off soon

You'll probably find if you run a diagnostic check on the car that its an ABS sensor failiure, reasonably common on 6n2's. Part costs around £20, its a pretty simple job if youre spanner handy

Also, as long as the light is on, the ABS system is switched off!

As said, the ABS sensors on the wheels can get covered in dirt and cause wrong readings.

These sensors can also fail.

Also the ABS unit itself is known to fail. The solder on the CPU melts and looses the connections.. Easy fix if your good with a soldering iron. I can't be arsed to write out a more detailed explanation. Do a search as it's been asked and answered a million times.

Get it checked out on VAGCOM as that will show you where the issue is.

Ill have to run it to my mate at VW and get him to put it on the scanner.

I wouldnt mind it being a sensor, ill swap it quickly.

Just dont want it to be a module or pump or what ever :/

mine does this sometimes even tho there is no problem. apparently, every time you get to (iirc) 15ish MPH it does a self check. slowly accelerate to like 20 then slow gradually to a stop (using brakes) and sometimes it does it first time, sometimes second but it will clear it (if there isn't actually a faulty component. if there is, this method won't work...

Also, check the fuses on the top of the battery tray.

I can't remember which one it is, but any hint of corrosion and it'll cry; the system'll throw a low voltage error. The fuses have to be totally clean.

so, was it my method that worked or was something actually faulty?

No idea mate, just driving around normally again not conciouslly thinking about making it go out.

But for now I'm happy, if it comes on again i will investigate further. . . .

Mine comes on now and then and also the engine warning had it checked but there r not faulty components will check the fuses out tho may be them

Same here :/ Mine keeps coming on then going away for no apparent reason... Tis confusing and kinda scary as i like ABS lol

And the little b*stard is back on again :@
