few questions about spraying

Featured Replies

Today i received my replacement wing mirror cover and spray set from vw.. i have started spraying the base coat and so far it looks to be going well. Probably one of the best spray paints I've used

but I'm wondering if i need to use 1200 wet and dry before laquer and once laquered how i would go about 'flatting' the paint to finish it and make it shiny. If thats the right word. I've read i need to use a cutting compound like g3. but would normal polish do, or even t cut

thanks for your help

use 1500-2000 grit paper WET, then a polish like G3.

what about before applying laquer?

ideally use 2000 before lacquer but as long as theres no dust when paints drying you should be ok. just lay the lacquer on and cut that back and polish it.

just to be clear will it have to be a cutting polish or will a polish such as megs stage 2 do?

thanks

also how long would you recommend i leave between coats

at the moment I'm leaving around an hour bewteen basecoats and was going to leave the basecoat to dry overnight then apply laquer

If its a mettalic paint paint DO NOT wet sand before laquer as you will pull out the metallic particles

sorry didnt think to put that. yes if your using solid 2k then crack on lacquering but its a no no with any metallic colour..

I am a pro body man and have been painting for years never sand basecoat unless you ave a wee bit of dirt in the base it if so use wet and dry to remove it then dust a anther light coat over it never put the base on heavy beause it's ment to be dusted on especially metallics to much basecoat and it will stuck in the the laquear and give you a dull shite finsih mix your laquear 2-1-50 to get a nice smooth Hight glossy finish this won't need flaten it will bee a hight quaitly finish flatten if there dirt in the laquear I always flaten and ploish my paint work for a even better finish use 1500 wet and dry then 2000 the use g3 compound then Gand glaze

its a shame you dont use punctuation cos that would probably help alot!... i joke i managed to make sense of it :)

the colour is 'oceanic green pearl effect' which should be treated the same as metallic?
