at the mo nitrous is just plain pointless as its currently torque steering in third gear.

also have got some new rims for the car (no the BBS mags will not be up for sale)

they are 9.5J all round running 205 50 13 avon CR 500's. gonna have to cut some arches I'm thinking to get them to fit under there but thats half the fun right :)

right well thought i better do a couple of updates

been on a wheel spending session recently

corvette sawblades are for my BMW e21 and the other rims are my new polo race wheels

here is a pic of one with the Avon cr500 caterham tyres I'm running

the car ran very well at inters but caused all sorts of issues on left turns as the front wheel was touching on the arch and effectivly brakeing me.

Have purchased a set of KW coilovers for the rear and will fit these wide tyres then will get around to doing some front arch mods.

at inters also bought a mk1 golf splitter.

car will be up for sale at the end of september after the £999 challange. engine is a bit smokey but compression tets is fine so i will just have to see what condition she is in after the whole event maybe drop another engine in after with injection system on it rather than the bike carbs.

surely you cant fit those wheels in the budget!!

You can swap wheels just for the event though...

the Mambas have a few buckles and have cost me virtually nothing to put onto the car.

here is a pic of the rear with the 9.5 J mambas fitted and my KW mk2 golf rear suspension set up in place

currently waiting on some front spacers to be made up, also going to have to find some sort of aftermarket arch kit to make the wheels actually fit under there lol.

the event is on the 16th of September if anyone is interested in coming to see it run at santapod.

yeah i found these the other day, pricey for few bits or GRP i think but cheapest on ebay, i got a Group 2 kit sat on my bmw e21 at home but i dont want to butcher it about.

does it really need all that tyre on the back.. all its going to do is cause drag/add weight and there for slow you down isn't it?

the back is so light i need the extra grip, your right that it wont help on the drag strip but handling course is essential.

the camber on the rear will actually mean not a huge contact patch on the drag strip if i get lots of air in there, then will just drop the pressures for handling course.

work still to do on mine before the 16th

- clean up brakes

- fit mk1 golf gti front splitter

- cut arches out and fit fibreglass items

- build some filters for the inlets

- remove polo seats and fit kirkey alloy seat

- Paint the floor

- floor mount the nitrous bottle

- drop steering coloum

- fit mountey steering wheel (my wolfsberg one will be up for sale)

- fit front spacers and wheels

- adjust rear to optimize the handling

Sorry... the lighter the rear the less tyre you need to run on the rear wheels (on FWD). As there is less weight in the rear of the car when going round the corner there is less weight trying to go straight on (momentum).

Like most FWD cars Polo will understeer way before you get any oversteer. The only time I've had it is when you are doing 70+ round a tight corner (paddock hill bend) and brake or violently lift off the throttle (which you shouldn't do! :) ). I don't think on the slalom course that will be a problem as speeds will be a lot lower.

This. Never lift on Paddock Hill at brands hatch, Ends in tears.

at inters when i was on the tight handling course i discovered that i could counteract the epic understeer (should be better now with wider tyres) by basically driving on the handbrake and using it to 4 wheel drift round the course, however the suspension was pissing about and the rears where not really feeling like they where attached to the car.

It should work out ok now though, i guess i wont really know untill i give it a proper test

have nearly sourced a mk4 golf 1.8T so can begin the next stage of the project
