Minor accident advise

Featured Replies

Hey guys was driving alone the road which leads to my house on the right hand side of the road there is always parked cars, i was on the left driving down the road and another driver in a rover 200 didnt bother to pull in and wait drove round all the parked cars in the middle of the road and knocked my wing mirror off, his broke into loads of pieces and he drove off, i did a utune and went off to get him, eventually stopped exchanged details and he was about 80. Spoke to tesco my insurers and they said its a bit of 50 50 as he could say anything if he makes a claim as no photos or whitnesses. Just wondered if anyone had some advise as i only have 3 years no claims so not protected yet as I'm only 22, I dont want to lose my no claims for something which wasnt my fault in the slightest and I have already repaired mine so wont be putting in a claim as just minor scuffs to the casing are now visible.

Many Thanks guys for any advise you can give.

shouldnt of bothered chasing him up for a wing mirror i would of thought fuck it and gone to the scrappy lol

leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in itself, so if he does make a claim you tell your insurance company he drove off.

TBH these days you should have got the police involved as leaving the scene means he had something to hide and being 80 most likely an expired driving license or he would fail the police's competency's test.

agree with that

I'm a fleet manager and we had a hit and run last year with a similar sort of thing to yours but clipped our wing as well. Our driver turned round and got the 3rd parties details. The police didn't care and neither did either insurance companies, no wonder people always try to run off from things like this. And all it came to was a 50/50 even though the 3rd party was on the wrong side of the road when it happened.

just get a £15 replacement off a scrapper, its simpler, and if the chance of the insurance route going balls up is high, much much cheaper.

Hi it depends what he says you probly have no inderpendent witness to back your claim up and more or less hard to prove it was him unless he had a lot of your paint work on his car AND vice versa. if you did go via insurance your prem will go up and you might lose your no claims.
