Hi there can anybody help me with this, I've removed the front bolts which goes through the front bush, un-done the ball joint but can't for the life of me get the rear bush out or see how it comes out I can't see any bolts other than the ones which attach the subframe to the chassis?

Am I being a total C*CK or is it a specialist job?

Removing and installing suspension link

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t Multi-purpose tool -VW 771-

t Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

Removing suspension link

– Lift vehicle far enough to take weight off front wheels.

– Remove front wheel.

If suspension link is not to be renewed

t Mark positions of bolts -arrows- of swivel joint -1- on suspension link -2-.

t Mark installation position of swivel joint -1- in relation to suspension link -2-.

– Turn steering to full lock on right (removal on left side) or to full lock on left (removal on right side).

– Remove bolts -arrows-.

– Pull wheel bearing housing with swivel joint out of suspension link.

– Mark installation position of bolt -arrow- remove bolt and pull suspension link out from subframe.

– Pull out suspension link -1- from bracket using multi-purpose tool -VW 771-.

Installing suspension link

– Coat the suspension link hexagon with tyre assembly paste.

– Insert suspension link in bracket, using a rubber mallet as required.

Caution

t When pressing in the suspension link, check the installation position of the suspension link in relation to the bracket. The hexagon of the suspension link must line up with the hexagon in the bonded rubber bush in the bracket.

t The suspension link should form a level surface with the subframe.

t Failure to ensure the correct installation position will cause damage to the bonded rubber bush in the bracket and shorten the service life of the bonded rubber bush.

– Fit suspension link in subframe, using a rubber mallet as required.

– Insert bolt -arrow- and tighten to old mark(s).

– Fit swivel joint in suspension link.

– If suspension link has not been renewed, tighten bolts and swivel joint, aligning with old mark(s).

If suspension link has been renewed:

– Position suspension link -1- and swivel joint -2- in such a way to each other that the bores -arrows- of suspension link and swivel joint line up with each other.

To assist location, use two Ø 8.3 mm drifts or two Ø 8.3 mm drill bits (as shown in picture).

Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

– Install wheel and tighten bolts or nuts → Chapter.

Specified torques

t Tighten bolts in unladen state.

70 Nm + 90°

Swivel joint to suspension linkt Use new bolts!

20 Nm + 90°
