Bodies are different than on the paperwork

Featured Replies

My uncle passed me down his old MK4 1.0L for me as a first car, when he gave me the paperwork it said on it that the car was a 3 door, but the car clearly has 5 doors, i've had a look on different insurance websites and i've done a couple of car checks just to make sure it wasn't a mistake and everywhere is saying that its a 3 door, does it make any difference.

My dad told me to just change the paperwork but wouldn't that put up my insurance when i do start driving.

I haven't had a chance to check the body numbers to check if someone swapped over bodies, but i can find that out on sunday.

Thanks

Will

check the chassis number against the documentation, if it doesnt match, then you might have a ringer on your hands, if it was reshelled you should have the V5 for the actual body the car has been reshelled into...

just write a quick letter to dvla stating that its a 5dr and not a 3, they will ammend the log book and send it back

Check the VIN first. If it all looks ok send a letter to the DVLA. They'll probably ask you to take it for an inspection to make sure it isn't a ringer.

Yesterday i checked the body number against the number on the paperwork and so my amazement... it was different.

it seems as though there has been a 6N2 body thats been put on it because loads of parts have been 6N2's apart from the bootlid, it is a 6N version bootlid which has obviously been resprayed, i know this because i dont have a key that will fit it and the barrell isnt seized or anything.

As a result of this I'm just simply thinking of breaking it, i wanted a 3 door anyway because i will be taking the back seats out to make way for my BMX :p

cheers anyway XD

Seems a bit odd to me, not many 6n2 parts fit a 6n without hassle.

I'd look further into it if I were you.

Sounds like a clone to me though.

I'm probably not going to worry about it to much, I've decided to break it anyway, i wouldnt mind a 3 door project then use that as a first car instead of building a 5 door and never using it.

cheers for the adivce though guys, if i sold it and it was illegal it most probably would have com back to me (N). then id have trouble :L
