Loved it when it was yellow! Derbys are deffo better than squarebacks for pick-up conversions.

yep, trying not to sound preachy and gay but if he gets pulled over by vosa driving that it will probably be crushed or at least his log book taken away by the dvla and burnt

people should really look into the legality's before taking a stihl saw to their car

Any insurance on this would he invalid anyway so he might as well just tell them it's standard

Insurance isn't the problem its the actual registration of it. When they chopped it into a pickup they should have sent the logbook off stating the change of body style. On receipt of the log book this would flag the vehicle up for an inspection. When you cut into the monocoque (chassis notch etc) the car needs an IVA test. Basically they remove the current registration from the vehicle, then if you pass the test you are issued with a new one. You also have to rename the car with a non trademarked name. The test costs about £600 plus £200-odd to retake it if it fails. The problem is that there is no class to test a car cut down into a pickup, so you can't go through the IVA process.

This car obviously hasn't been through this process as its on the original reg number so must still be registered as a hatchback. Might get away with it for a while, but if it gets flagged up to the DVLA (could be stopped at a VOSA checkpoint, flagged up at MOT, or even through DVLA seeing it at a show/on a forum - which is possible) the registration of the car will be revoked and summoned to an IVA test, which it obviously can't pass.

There is talk of big fines/jail coming in for carrying a fraudulent registration document. I'd imagine that insurers could easily use it as a get out clause though it's supposed to be unrelated.

It's pretty cool that, I'm sure I've seen it around when it was yellow too.

Those engine figures just don't add up for me though, I don't see how it's making 1.3 bar of boost with a g40 lader, 65mm pulley on a 1w block. Although the cam is diffent to the others isn't it? He needs to get it on a rolling road.

but he's not turning those into pick ups, have a read of this link and it will explain in more detail click me.

the problem with the insurance is that the car shouldn't legally be on the road, it hasn't had the appropriate tests to prove that it's road worthy after having extensive chassis modifications. if that's involved in a crash do you really think that the insurance will pay out when they find out the car isn't road worthy?
