Yeah that's it! I think I actually prefer it how it was then, more subtle where as it's a bit in your face now which isn't to my liking, still pretty cool mind don't get me wrong

thought that the chasis is defined to certain part of the car ie floor panels, turrets, chassis legs and with that thought you just needed to tell insurance about it being modified and only being a 2 seater, i know a bloke who makes classic mini roadsters and thats all he does and never had a problem in 10/15 years

but he's not turning those into pick ups, have a read of this link and it will explain in more detail click me.

the problem with the insurance is that the car shouldn't legally be on the road, it hasn't had the appropriate tests to prove that it's road worthy after having extensive chassis modifications. if that's involved in a crash do you really think that the insurance will pay out when they find out the car isn't road worthy?

how would the insurrance find out the car is not road worthy if the pickup has mot/tax/insurrance and looks clean and not a bodge and is in a crash witch it cant drive from it would be collected by the local recovery that the police use in the area and would ever be taken to there yard or to a destination of your choice.

this is providing you have told your insurrance about the full modifications including pickup lookalike conversion.

providing the crash is not down to a poor conversion or the car failing due to poor workmanship or poor driving and no deaths or a need for a police crash investigation i cant see the police would investigate the cars furthur and all involved in the crash/prang are happy the police will just get the cars recovered and let the insurrance companys deal with the rest.

not arguing just debating :)

also why does it have to be reclassed because it is a pickup who says its a pickup looks like a saloon with a missing back end not a pickup. what if you have a panel covering the open area is it still a pickup? just because it looks like a pickup does not mean it is a pickup?

As it is it's a pickup, which is classed as a vehicle with an open goods bay over a certain size in cu/ft. People have tried and failed to put a solid tonneau on and go through the test as a coupe, they're not stupid. Even if it wasn't reclassified it'd still need a IVA test, which it wouldn't pass without a complete rebuild and would have to look completely different.

I saw this at ultimate dubs in around 2007 I think? Looked cracking then.

well it obviously has had extensive chassis modification, what do you think is going to be the first question an insurance assessor (who's job it is is to find ways of not paying out on insurance claims) is going to ask? it would only take a 30 second check on which ever sites it is they use to show that this is still classed as a saloon in the eyes of the DVLA, it's not gonna take long then to check if it's been through an IVA test is it? after all every thing is computerized these days and i'm guessing as part of their job these guys have access to a lot of information.

although tbh i would of thought that if you told your insurance that you had chopped half of your car off they would ask you if it had been through the appropriate tests and if you have proof of this. last time i told them my car had a cat 1 alarm they wanted me to send them copys of the paper work proving it

there not gonna be too keen on insuring some thing that for all they know could look like this are they?

i agree but why do i see so many converted monocoque cars monocoque 4x4's shells in to pick-ups how do they get insurance unless there lieing i guess some will be but not all.?

i think its more a problem if you let the dvla know or try to test your conversion with them and do it the right way your more likely to have problems after being flagged than if you just tell the insurance and take a risk like so many others that dont ever seem to have any problems that i know of?

and why are mot stations giving mot's out when it would be classed as a dodgy mot or somthing as the car would not match with the details on the system at time of mot?

I know people that have had mot's when their car hasn't even left their drive way, all you need is a mate that works at an mot station lol.

People may take the risk and they might not get caught, but that doesn't make it legal. If I go out and rape some one and don't get caught does that make it ok?

You can argue the toss until the cows come home but the bottom line is that car isn't road legal and it doesn't have valid insurance and as you pointed out it probably doesn't even have a valid mot.
