I know there is a huge grey area regarding HID's so just wondered if anyone can help me, I'm going to get some FK angel eyes(or similar). Now if i get these from a uk based company do they have to legally be set up for uk roads? ie different allignment to german ones? or will they come set up for LHD and need adjusting and if so can i do them myself or will i need to take them to a garage?

Lastly are there ANY legal HID kits? i have heard lots of different opinions about colours of bulbs etc i just want to know if there are lights that are certain to be within uk laws>

I love the look of the HID'S but as a new driver i can't give the popo any chance to give me points so i would appreciate it if anyone who knows can help me out before i splash the cash

FK's have a little tab to swap them from LHD to RHD.

6000k is white with very slight flash of blue (OEM), the higher the K the more blue and dimmer the light. 4300k is the brightest (brilliant white), 3000k is golden yellow.

As for HID's the new laws coming in will make them fully illegal but like all blanket bans of things like this it doesn't state were the rules apply when fitting after market lights designed for HID's to a car that didnt come from the factory with HID's.

Pretty much as the above, although technically they have never been legal as such because you've always had to have the correct equipment to go with "Xenon" headlights or whatever you want to call them.

New rules are in place now that gives MOT testers the ability to fail you car instantly if an aftermarket HID kit is present.

Xenon headlights have to be factory fitted, have headlight washers and auto alignment. The rule has been in place since the beginning of this year, you might get lucky and still get a pass...

My old Fiesta passed with HIDs, was at the end of last year and they friggin failed the thing on my WHITE LED sidelights... lol

^^^I had issues with my sidelights too strange enough, the HID's passed but he said the sides had a blue tint so they failed on that (found that the TCA bushes were screwed so the car was going to fail anyway)

I'm now running 3k (Yellow) HID's as there not a common HID colour and if do get pulled I have a set of 3k effect H4's in the car.

No worries, it is a lot of hassle to find that they fail, you might get away with it, but i wouldn't risk it again.

Ye, but currently they only pull you if there dazzling/badly aligned (if you have H4's and no Hi/Lo then you really are screwed) from Midnight on Jan 1 2011 they will be illegal to sell/supply and install to any vehicle that did not leave the factory with them fitted.

As for self levelling systems they are the worst thing ever fitted to a car, there ok if you live somewhere flat but anywhere hilly there too slow to react and dazzle oncoming drivers.

Most new cars dont even have lights aligned properly until there 1st MOT which is why you see so many new cars with dazzling lights.

This thread has helped a lot to me as i was thinking about getting the black halo lights for the front of mine and the normal were £105 and the HID where £190 but yeah next year the mot is going to fail them so i am gonna go for the cheap option haha.

ill see how long I get away with yellow HID's when the new laws come in as tbh most coppers will be looking for white/blue lights

Still unsure just seen a few threads on other sites saying angel eyes don't dip to the left and have to be e marked which they are not?

I might be coming across as thick as f..k here but would fk angel eyes and H7 bulbs be fully road legal? I really want a set but like I said I cannot risk points being a new driver and I need my car for work.

Assuming you mean H7 HIDs? And not just normal bulbs. You won't get a fine first, only a warning which would be unlikely especially as angel eyes are projector headlights.

The only thing that might happen is that you fail your MOT. More hassle than it's worth IMO, just get some upgraded H7 halogen bulbs tbh

Got pulled at a Vosa check-point this afternoon and thought here we go, lucky enough they didnt notice my front tires (I had my slicks on ) just wanted to check my front number plate (Dubmister pressed one) all Ok and I was free to go, didnt bat an eyelid at my lights (they were on the whole time along with my grill lamps on dip), while waiting to leave a young lad in front with a Corsa fitted with there version of FK's who was told he had 14days to change his lamps back to standard items and refit standard fitment bulbs or have his car impounded, the VOSA guy then read off a long list of what was wrong with his lights.

I see the Corsa in question around a lot and the lights are dazzling as fook plus there about 12k temp

Yeah that's what I'm wondering is it the actual lights they don't like or the bulbs? I'm just wanting to put some Phillips super whit h7 halogen bulbs in and not have hids but I dont know if it is going to be legal due to the actual lights being frowned upon by he plod.

What if you got OEM headlights and whatever they come with from a donor car and fitted them to the same year/model car? The MOT guy nor the police are going to phone up VW and ask what extras the car came with...

I think you're confusing Angel eyes for Xenon headlamps or HIDs?

There's nothing wrong with Angel eyes (The aftermarket headlamp units) as long as you're not putting a HID kit in them...

Using Angel Eyes and halogen bulbs is fine...

Sounds odd to me really... Can't see how that would make them illegal...

For instance, H4 bulbs are dual filament so when you turn the main beam on, the dipped beam turns off...

Could be wrong though :/
