Young male car insurance to go down?

Featured Replies

to be fair i would much rather insurance in general go down and men and women pay the same amount however pigs don't fly

and due to the amount of near misses i have had with distracted women drivers compared to men i think the rise is justified

Well, at least Sheila's Wheels will sod off now.

I've never understood why women paid less ? I've been with Churchill for 7 yrs with 7 yrs no claims with a clean driving licence i still pay more than £200 more than my fiance who has 6 yrs no claims plus a car that is 10 yrs younger and with the same insurance company ,when questioning this with Churchill all they could say was women are regarded safer drivers (yeah right !) Well as some one has said on here they wanted equal rights so there you are girls ....

Women are thought to be less of a risk.. I personally know of more women who've had accidents than blokes but I guess the statistics say what they say. Thank the bad boys with suped up cars.. no offence anybody

Insurance is definitely a rip off though.. logically everybody should start with low insurance, untill you actually do have an accident, then it should rocket. The way it is now, it's like being arrested and assumed to be guilty without being proven guilty! I paid £1100ish for my 1.6 polo when I turned 21 (first car.. put off getting a car for 2 years because of insurance) and after 1 year no claims it's down to £950. That's a massive chunk of my expendable income.. you'd think women will pay more and men will now get to pay slightly less, but fat chance. Like it's been said it's all about the money :-)

To be honest I would vote against this given the chance. I don't see why they should be made to charge equal prices when there is clear evidence to suggest that male drivers are more of a risk than women so raising the prices for women is absurd.

Well, at least Sheila's Wheels will sod off now.

Don't get your hopes up. They've already put out a 'business as usual' press release.

Statement from Sheilas’ Wheels on the European Court of Justice ruling regarding the EU Gender Directive 2005 and gender pricing in insurance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Today’s ruling by the European Court of Justice will affect millions of women across the EU from 21 December 2012 causing premiums to rise artificially in a way that no longer truly reflects women’s risk as drivers or the cost of their claims.

Sheilas’ Wheels has always believed that calculating prices based on the relative risks and claims costs of men and women is accepted by UK consumers and appropriate.

When the ruling becomes law in the UK, Sheilas’ Wheels will comply with it but has no intention of changing its marketing or diluting its appeal to women. The company believes that car insurance has historically been designed ‘by men, for men’ and Sheilas’ Wheels benefits, designed with women in mind, correct some of the outdated practices that still exist today. That will continue.

Adrian Webb, Head of Communications at Sheilas’ Wheels, said:

“Sheilas’ Wheels has always insured men but most males simply aren’t attracted to our brand and we don’t see this changing. We brought car insurance up to date by including benefits designed with women in mind that were absent in the market. Our handbag cover recognises that even a handbag, let alone its contents, is worth more than most policies’ personal possessions limits.

“Despite this ruling, we will continue to market to women and to celebrate our pink brand because it does not prevent female-focused marketing. Over the course of the transition, we will make the changes necessary to comply but the huge proportion of women already with Sheilas’ Wheels will help us to maintain our highly competitive position.

“We aim to be the natural home for female motorists in the coming years as we have been to date.”

'Handbag cover'

Just gives more young drivers more of a reason to be uninsured. Its a load of bullshit! Fair enough lower mens prices as its a bit daft they are being charged more but why the hell do they feel they need to increase womens?!!?!?! Peed me right off this story has! Just more of a excuse to rip us off even more! Mens decreases by 10% yet womens rises by 25% explain how in hell thats fair!?

:evil::x :-X :x :-X :x :-X :x :-X :x :-X :x :-X :x

Its wont be the same though this is a great way or insurance company's to rip even more money off people. Mens policy's wont decrease i can guarantee it they will just increase womens close that gap to show some form of "progress" and just end up getting more thousands of pounds! If they wanted to make it more fair then why didnt they just decrease the male percentage so it is the same as womens.. why feel the need to increase womens? As they dont want to lose money obviously just to gain more :doubt:

This is exactly what I'm getting at!

Nothing is going to go down in this day and age though is it?

Your retarded if you think that would happen

Everybody says its because women have less accidents.

Its Bullshit, its because women do things like bump into parked cars then drive off. I know several people that have openly admitted to doing this (my mom is one of um haha).... None of them were blokes.

Lets not forget about a certain couple of blokes we know toby though, one went into a bollard at waitrose other into a roundabout. you cannot say men are blameless in driving into random stuff

my mum used to work in insurance and her excuse was always when girls claim its to replace a bumper coz they dinged a pillar parking where as boys only claim when they roll there car or kill somone

and considering she rolled a capri when she was 18 i tell her to stfu or out lol

lol I'm yet to do either so....

I'm just gonna go back to my no claims farm ........

Out of 3 of my lad mates as well as myself...

2 of us bought our own car, insured it on our own polices and now have 2 years no claims, never even a bump 'off record'. The other 2 were bought cars for their b-days, went on parents insurances and both wrote the cars off within a year.

My opinion is that because two of us paid for everything ourselves we took better care of the cars and drove a little safer! Yet we are still put into the group of 'high risk'.

my sentements exactly i like my cars and I'm proud of them (although when they go mechanically wrong i tend not to have any money and give up on em lol

I had this argument with the manager at work yesterday

She was sayin young boys are all boyracers...

This is what pisses me off, if you are young and have a car that may/may not be modded your instantly an irresponsible idiot that hoons your car everywhere with no respect for others...

Where as infact, Its the ones that drive modded cars that are less likely to be stupid because they actually care about the car they are driving.

If anything, i think its pensioners insurance that should go up.

Every near miss or whatever that I've had, has been down to someone that clearly shouldnt be aloud on the road still because they haven't a fucking clue what they are doing and whats happening around them.

Just outside work, all crashes have been down to olderly people. Some bloke drove off the carpark and straight into the lampost on the other side of the road  I mean how on earth do you do that?

Also seen a old woman in an auto. park then suddenly go shooting into a wall. The bad thing was, it took about a 30 seconds for her to stop the wheels spinning

If this all goes ahead with female drivers ending up having to pay more for there insurance, it still wont be in affect for another two years. Can anybody answer why it is males are forced to pay such astonomical insurance prices which cost more than the car itself? i mean this is just and example i pay £1000 for R- reg 1.4 polo and my gf pays £700 for seat leon 03 plate 1.4 both live under the same postcode why the big dfference? And shes had 4 dings since she passed last year in oct, i mean I've been drving for nearly two years and only ever had one scrape (touch wood). Where do they pull there quote's from? Rant over lol

try telling that to a 17 year old chav in a saxo with cheapo alloys and a crappy exhaust hanging off the back

What i was getting at is, they categorise all of us as those types. the idiots mincing around in saxos.

Josh hits the nail on the head there as to why its unfair!!

Regardless of the driver being female or male insurance costs are still stupid! I've had to cancel my insurance because it was costing me 358 a month on a 1.0 polo! (and I shopped around for insurance everyone gave me same kind of quote!)

There charging young drivers more than there car actually costs! I could have written my car off twice for what my insurance cost lol!

Hoping to be robbed I mean re insured again soon though :)

it is unfair but what can we do, how can insurers tell who is a sensible driver and not some dickhead that will roll his car full of his mates into field.

so untill we get some get some no claims they simply can't tell, they can only look at figures if the amount of claims is higher in one group of people the insurance companies will increase the premium to reflect the risk.

good point, haha try telling them on the phone, pleeeaassseee lower my car insurance I dont speak like this blad, or wear tracksuits, or listen to bad tunage!

On the 5th of march I would have had my licence for a year is it worth mentioning when your getting a quote??

Can anybody answer why it is males are forced to pay such astonomical insurance prices which cost more than the car itself?

Your insuring yourself in that car really though. Be it a 1litre polo or a 2litre golf gti, you could quite easily hit something and rack up the same amount of damage to other cars/property that all needs paying out for on your insurance. So most quotes should really have little to do with the car and look into the person a heck of a lot more. Their job, the fact they have been the owner of the car for over a year, little things like that which would suggest the person takes care of their car instead of looking at age and sex.

One of the earlier posts about race made sense...

Why are underwriters allowed to use statistics like 'more males crash in their first year' when calculating insurance quotes but they are not allowed to use (for example) 'more British Caucasians crash in their first year'?? Oh hell no, you can't go giving a skin colour higher prices just because they crash more in their first year! That would be wrong! But a certain sex?? Kick the price up!!!

Edited by Liquidice

Some mp's have been kicking off about this now with one female mp declaring it "sexist"

What a stupid idiot, how is it sexist making men and women pay the same? If any thing its sexist making men pay more just because they were born with a Willy.

Look at it this way. All young men are tared with the same brush when applying for insurance, no matter how sensible they are they are still classed as high risk because they are a young men and some young men drive like dicks. All this is doing is removing the man bit from it and they will now be taring all young people with the same brush.

So now rather than it being young men getting stung regardless of how careful or sensible they are, its now all young people getting stung regardless of how careful or sensible they are. It's no more unfair on careful young female drivers as it has been on careful young male drivers for years.

funny how non of these people that are so disgusted by this didn't seem to think it was unfair when it was just lads getting raped by the insurance industry.
