1992 G40

Featured Replies

Hello there :)

Been perving around here for a while now as I've always had a soft spot for Polo's! And I've been wanting a G40 for about three years :)

Well luckily my prayers were answered last week when I received one for my 17th birthday, I chipped in half and got my dream car!

It's a 1992 G40 with 98,000 on the clock, lowered 60 mm with 14" BBS RA's, with a working sunroof! bought from Exeter :) Its in good condition for its age and after a polish its comes up like new, theres bits and bobs to do like a new fuel tank is needed and I'm going to either re pack the exhaust or buy a stock one because its LOUD , over 60 its a bit deafening! Oh and the Ignition lead going from the distributor to the coilpack has fried so one of those will be needed! Anyway, the pictures!

Plans are to sort the things that need doing first, and then move on to the fun stuff, like the brakes (Performance pads and discs) and coilovers for the front and springs and shocks on the rear ( fund permitting!) and interior needs a refurb! Sorry for the angle of the pictures, dont give you much of an idea! ill roll it out tomorrow and get some decent shots!

Thanks for reading!

Tom.

Pictures annoy me

looks like a lovely car though! Think i recognise it, was it on this forum previously?

coilovers for a mk3 arnt cheap dude fronts are the main problem, best going for a lowered shocks and spings on the front and coilovers on the back.

Have you got an insurance quote? :D

lamb... slaughter... :(

lamb... slaughter... :(

my thoughts too.... if he's sensible once he passes his test i'm sure it'll be okay though.

Haha sorry about that! Were the only ones i could find without me grinning like a retard in! Cheers though! It was bought off pistonheads but it could of been on here at some point :)

Yeah coilys are expensive because of the annoying hub and strut setup! But i can just about afford a pair on top of all the stuff that needs doing once i get paid this month, i want to be able to adjust the setup so coilovers are the only option really :) luckily for me I'm insured on my dads garage policy, so it doesnt cost very much at all, there is a hefty excess though which is to be expected.

I would like later on to take it on a track day, in a safer environment  Rather than risk it on a public road.

I hope i trust myself enough to drive it at all

Track days are awesome dude! You can beat the shit out of the car and its legal and safe(er)

Looks a nice tidy car bud, but as said above keep an eye on the speedo. Its easy to go over when putting foot down in a 1l or 1.3 but a g40 you gotta be careful. get some more pics up.

nice car. you say the king lead is burnt out from the coil to the dizzy! check the rest of the leads and make sure you have the correct spark plugs, as this could be the reason your king lead has gone. i had mine burn out, traced the problem back to a ht lead which was different to the other 3 and didnt fit properly

How lucky are you getting that at 17?! I passed my test about 2 months ago and am having to make do with a beaten up old 1.3 6n :( Still love it though!

Nice car mate!

I love glossy alpine white paint in the sunshine, makes me miss my old white GT! Car looks super tidy though dude, you're lucky having this at 17!

smash that up and i'll come smash you!

Its a minter. But please be carefull. Its a handfull of a car at 17 or to any driver and white ones in good nick are rare!

Must be costing you 2k if not more to insure lol.

Seriously tidy car this. Be careful with it, don't run before you can walk.

Lucky lucky boy, looks nice and tidy! As said be careful with it :)

Thanks guys! means alot! i love the colour, and insurance is taken care of, its very cheap :) I'm on my dads garage policy, and his premium hasn't gone up very much at all, I'm lucky on that too! Yes I'm going to take it very very easy, the last thing i want to do is ruin the car which i will probably have for the rest of my driving life!

Tidy..

Keep it that way
