Cheers for both above comments. Ill get bk to u on the nz tomorrow when I can see straight. Is the blue wire high or low pressure then? I guess I'm testing for low atm. Ill be testing and checking the oil pump on sat? They seem a tad expensive to replace considering if it don't work ill be after a new lump. =)

  • Yes tis true , I'm not sure why it was such a problem on Higgos ? I could never get the throttle body to reset . I'm sure given enough time to sift through the faults it could be rectified. In Leggy

  • Just checked mine and top and bottom go to the matrix and middle goes to the expansion bottle Now get out there and get it fucking finished!

  • exhaust manifold modded and ready for delivery :-D tho i still think you should get stainless 4 branch manifold and 2" system you cheap ass lol :p heres a present for you

Well I've had the sump off and it seems my oil pump is direct drive rather than chain. There's no visible damage to the sump or pick up, and it's not blocked. So I have a decision to make. Do I take the engine out once again, in the hope that a new pump cures the low pressure in the head, or give up on this engine all together and source a reliable motor. It was running so well a week ago today!

This engines been in and out to of the car more times than me this past month lol.

Dont give up m8! Keep going. You not come this far to give up unless financies and missus starting to miss you is putting the pressure on. I'm starting to get this AFH itch now for my own mrk2 which I've just garaged the now to give it the basics when i got time for its next MOT. My mrk2 has a 2G engine in it needing a rebuild now so the humming n hawing of an AFH project is echoing in my brain now. Now look what you guys have gone n done ! Decisions decisions!

Giving up isn't an option now I've driven it and know how great it is. I've got savings to get it sorted so that's not to big an issue either. It's the fact I WILL have to pull the engine out AGAIN and pay out for a new pump, and even then I could still be scratching my head when the noise hasn't gone.

If your considering it, set enough time lol.things can and will go wrong. If my tensioner didn't fail, i would have had it all done in 2 weeks but that was a month ago now.

fit some bike carbs the noise will overpower any problems

Lol I wish I'd thought of that. That or give me your engine...

Fuck me £116.40 for an oil pump

could it be somthing else like a blockage in one of channels in the head? There must be an accurate way of diagnosing the pump has/hasn't failed. I don't mind another £100 bill if it sorts it out. This is one thing I have no experience in what so ever. Any local mechanics wanna make a few quid? Desperate cry for help!

Ok I've bought an oil pump. Cost me £87 from euro with our discount so not to bad. While the engines out I'm gonna take out the cams, and spin the bottom end over with a beffy drill and hopfully push through any blockages in the cam lobe oil passages. No doubt a messy job but a required one none the less.

Fingers crossed this works or all these new parts will be coming off this dud engine, and onto another.

If this oil pump doesn't lube up my life, ill be in touch

hahahah! good luck man!

fixed this yet then douche, I'm still waiting for my go lol. seriously tho have you checked the condition of the cam bearings if they are worn could be the source of your problem, worth a look if your pulling the cams out

i found this earlier

Ahh my old coupe! Well I've bought an oil pump, pulled the engine bk out on Wednesday. Tomorrow its an early start to get the crank pulley off, swap for the new pump, and check oil feeds for the cams. They don't have bearings as such as they're built into the head. It'll be back in by Sunday and if it hasn't worked ill be getting another block and head and getting all the new parts onto it, but that's worse case scenario. If it's running ill come over for you to have a go. Hows your gearbox? Back on the road now?

let's hope it's just the oil pump then . yeh car's back on the road it was just the selector fork , clutch was pretty much dead to so i changed that aswell.

Cool I'm glad at least one of us is driving again. Yeah I'm praying it's the oil pump. I can't see what else it could be tbh. Ill know tomorrow! Oh and U know the flared rear quater I have.. Well I've made it worse. Think I'm gonna cut the one out of the A reg.

Can I borrow that arch rolling tool dude? I've got 3 days off work from now? :D

This morning I fitted the new oil pump, but when i started fit everthing else, I've found the timing belt tensioner is broken! When turning the allan key, even though its tensioning the belt, it isnt adjusting the finger. Its only done 100 miles so wtf. I'm gonna see if ECP will exchange it as surely it shouldnt have failed in such a short period.

Na I've had shit luck dude, but I've been persistent, new oil pump on and working.

2 words.... It's back ::biggrin::

now with added benefit of a top fill radiator for good measure.

The temperature gauge goes above just above half way before the fan kicks in so I think that's right? One thing that's doing my nut in is the idle. It's surging between 12-1500 rpm and driving me mad. I read on a Skoda forum about curing it by fitting a resistor to the EGR plug as I've done the EGR delete. Anyone else heard of this? I'll get a link when I'm at a pc.

So so happy to be driving again though =)

nice to see its going well again.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a good half hour or more? Your idle needs resetting, the correct way is to do it through vag com but disconnecting the battery works as long as there are no faults causing it.

Cheers guys. Yea I've tried the 'disconnect the battery' trick which works for an hour before going mental again. I can't seem to find that link about fitting the resistor now. I've got a spare throttle body here so ill give that a go first.

It's also worth checking for vacuum leaks. Some times the only cure is a new throttle body tho mate

Anyway glad she's back up and running again and hope its smoother sailing from here on in

Well I was reading a post of yours from last year regarding your engine pinking. My engines making the same noise as I've had engines 'pink' in the past. Did adjusting the distributor cure this for you? If not what did? I think ill have a go of this later on to see if this will cure the idle, pinking and the fact it drinks petrol(tho that might be to the fact I'm making good use of the extra horses.)

engines aside, back to the build itself!

This weekend I'm pulling the arch and sill kit to inspect the situation, and get the arch rolling tool in there. I think I can get away will rolling between 10 and 2 other clock and then trimming the same from the plastics. I'm tempted to repaint in gloss as I've done this on a previous mk2 and it worked damn well. Ill also be having a look at starting to make necessary repairs to the Kamei skirts.

Pinking, hmmm if I'm thinking of the situation I think your on about it wasn't pinking in the end. Back then I hadn't experienced pinking but from what I had read it kinda sounded like what I was getting, since then I have experienced it while timing up a mates mgb and I now know it sounds nothing like what the polo was doing

I'd defo give the dizzy a twist to see if this sorts it tho, I've always timed mine by ear cause to do it with the strobe needs vag com to lock it into position

I gave it a turn anti clock wise until the idle dropped to 1000rpm. No longer do the revs serge up and down, and the pinking sound has gone under hard acceleration. Tho now I seem to have lost some of the mid range power lol. I'm guessing that's as it was advanced far to much. Running and ticking over like a dream now though. Guy what does your rpm idle at once warm?

I've got another nice supprise ill be pulling out the weekend too. Possibly one for the haters, who knows and who cares 8-)
