Leggys Tornado Red Coupe 16v

Featured Replies

I gave it a turn anti clock wise until the idle dropped to 1000rpm. No longer do the revs serge up and down, and the pinking sound has gone under hard acceleration. Tho now I seem to have lost some of the mid range power lol. I'm guessing that's as it was advanced far to much. Running and ticking over like a dream now though. Guy what does your rpm idle at once warm?

I've got another nice supprise ill be pulling out the weekend too. Possibly one for the haters, who knows and who cares 8-)

Sticker bombing a rusty/ratlook bonnet? be sik daat!

Good to know its back on the road in 1 piece mate :D

  • Yes tis true , I'm not sure why it was such a problem on Higgos ? I could never get the throttle body to reset . I'm sure given enough time to sift through the faults it could be rectified. In Leggy

HA! I dont do stickers man! Oh and its nothing to do with that bonnet, not sure why I thought that was ever going to work. Think more along the lines of the 80's kamei skirts :-D This is all in hoping this particular part is still behind my garage in 1 peice and hasnt been bent in half or crushed.

I took the plunge earlier after finishing my overtime, and I can now announce after scraping away a few slugs and washing off a ton of crap, I have recovered yet another polo Kamei classic. Have a guess before scrolling down... :-D

1 beaten up Kamei spoiler! Been a good 5 year's since I saw this last, but it's in great condition apart from the paint work. Comes with built in red indicators as brake lights. Genius

Want!

A slightly less productive day than I had hoped, but still got quite a bit done. I set about removing the 'S' kit from the car which is all part of the process of what I want to do with the bodywork as a whole. The main reason for doing it right now is to eliminate the scrubbing on the rear.

This was always a worry as I know how much of a water trap arches/sills can be, but as each peice came off, the nervous laugh was soon swapped for sighs of relief and a big grin. No rot anywhere, and in all fairness, pritty good paintwork too!

In the words of paddy McGuiness. Let the Drill see the pop rivet!! lol

First arch to come off was the N/S/R followed by the sill and front arch.

IMG_20120310_144151.jpg

Then i had a go with the arch rolling tool.

IMG_20120310_142331.jpg

After finishing the N/S I had no worries about pulling the kit off the O/S

IMG_20120310_144926.jpg

I Gave the car a quick was all over, and a real good scrub where Id removed the kit and under the arches before I offered up one of the kamei skirts to see how it sat. A quick before and after shot of the trial fitment.

Next step is so get them rubbed down and shaped up for paint, along with the kamei spoiler. The plan is to get the arches back on, and working around the skirts. I'm not sure If they should be cut in line with the top of the skirt, or trimmed in a way where they will still come down to the bottom of the car. Personally I'd like the latter option if I can but I'll only know once the skirts are fully fitted.

I wont be getting started on it until I've sorted everything I've planned that will finish off porject gambo :unibrow: Its gonna be a long term build so somthing to keep me busy over the next year or so!

I wont post the pics in this thread as its a seperate build, but heres a few cheeky pics i grabbed of the rally and the new shell in the album below..

love the red coupe S when following you back I was like i have just sold all my mk2 polo bits that i have left but i want another one haha. I cant wait to see the build thread of THUNDER BASTARD THE 2ND. Do her proud buddy.

  • Author

Yeah the arse end of the MK2 has always been my fav :-)

I'm still not 100% what I'm doing with the rally. Obviously nothing with the shell. I've got it into the garage and pritty much stripped it, just the cutting out of the cage mounts and bias pedal box to do on it. I've been looking up fibreglass repair on youtube and it seems I wont have any problems sorting out these berg arches!!

they're Deffo going onto gambo once sorted. Hopfully I'll be able to work them around the kamei skirts, speaking of which, I've just finished painting and laquering them.

And what about this... IMG_20120331_142335.jpg

You need to come see it before there's nothing left!

leave it with no roof and go off roading hahah

  • Author

Lol yea i was thinking along the lines of dune buggy

the cage is out of it now. Only thing left to do is to cut out the mounting points, bias pedal box, and strip off the sump gaurd and rear beam and the scrapping can have it. A sad day for thunderbastard the 1st..

awesome. shae to scrap it but nevermind. reckon ull get your moneysworth out of it?

  • Author

My mrs would tell you no, I've wasted loads of money yet again lol. But Yeah deffo got my monies worth. Got the cage, fibreglass bonnet and boot, very tidy adjustable front strut brace, box section sump gaurd, ARB Blocks, race spec fuel cell with a fire wall, strengthened rear beam with stub axles and callipers, spare set of GT clocks, spare front and rear lights, stacks of panels, AND some beaten up berg arches which I'm starting to repair. Got my fibreglassing kit ready lol.

fair play mate! when you put it like that its a no brainer!

  • Author
Skirts look awesome, really like them! sell tbh

Cheers bud :-D . I'm really hoping I can get them to work with the berg arches by trimming them back to to the contour of the skirt, then glassing on a lip to the arch so it can rivet on right the way down to the sill. Hard to explain but will come together in pictures once I start the fibreglass Butchery.

I really want Phil Js snow plough splitter to go with this kit now!!

More skirt

Love the skirts. But why black?

I'll be doing the berg arches and kamei rear spoiler in gloss black to match them. I just love the 2 tone look of bright red and gloss black :-) Simples !

The wheels are going white this weekend too.

pmsl! do a tidy job of it and your welcome too!

  • Author

Yip I'm all over the idea of the gloss black skirts combined with gloss black burg arches. I've done one of the powetechs in white, still got the centre cap to go on but here's an example of how they'll look :-)
