  • Yes tis true , I'm not sure why it was such a problem on Higgos ? I could never get the throttle body to reset . I'm sure given enough time to sift through the faults it could be rectified. In Leggy

Just gonna have a little vent here today.

Yestarday I was driving down a local road that's being resurfaced, at no more than 10mph regardless of feeling I was being pushed along by other drivers . So there i was, dodging the drains which were ten to the dozen (you can see where this is heading lol). So I only went and bottomed out on one of them very harshly indeed. Instantly the cylinders head started to whine. There's no cracks or oil loss, so I've now gonna get the sump off and beat out the dent as I imagine its sat against the pump pickup. What a that of a day I wanted to go camping tommorow not remove sumps. Ahhh bloody polos....

Feel better already after sharing that lol :)

Sup chaps. Just returned today from a 2 week holiday in Greece, and while I was away i let a vw specialist sort out the damage i mentioned in my last post, so I'm a happy man with a sweetly running motor and no blowing exhaust! And lads, at the moment I'm doing my upmost to get these berg arches modded up at the sill ends to match the Kamei skirts, so until I fail, they're not for sale. Could also do with some stub axle spacers to bring these power techs inline to create the stance i want. That or wider wheels and a crazy ofset. Photo updates to come once I'm settled back into this Greek equivalent weather we're having! Rally sump guards at the ready :-D

Had a very long slog of a day cleaning and detailing as it was perfect conditions. (what else would you rather do on a bank holiday!

so I cracked out my big box of kit and spent nearly 8 hours at it with the machine polisher.

In order I :

washed

then washed again,

clay third wash!

T-cut with machine polisher and foam pad

meguirs deep crystal polish on foam

meguirs wax( can't remember what it's called lol?)

plastics and rubber dressing

Think that just about covers it lol.

A quick shot!

another day off work tomorrow so it's back to work with the skirts and berg arches. Not sure if I've shown this shot as I took it months ago, but it shows how much I need to space out the stub axles to fill the arches and achieve the stance I'm after!

HA cheers man. only update, after finally having a dry day today, I borrowed rambogolfs rivet gun and permanently attached the Kamei skirts. I was hoping to have the berg arches all modded to match the profile of the skirts, and all painted and fitted by volksfest next month, but I don't think I'm gonna do it in time :-( for now though, I'm just happy to have the skirts on the car!

oh yeah, and I've still not finished painting my wheels either (again, I blame the weather lol), these WILL be done for next month's vfw!

Rite then, I've been a busy boy getting the car sorted for vfw. I've finally finished painting up all my wheels! and better than that, I also have 2 of the caps finished and fitted. the caps were plasma cut from aluminum, filled down the edges, holes drilled, and security locking bolts to make sure they dont go anywhere :-D sneaky shot of them..

I've also done something I've been aiming to do for ages, and that's get rid of the stupid black and silver pin striping from the sides. I had started this before but it was taking an age, but today we came up with another solution!

I heated them up with a heat gun, then used a paint scraper, and the came off with next to no trouble at all! It was quite daunting taking the paint scrapper to the side of the car, but so long as your careful enough, it wont even touch the paint.

Now removing these did leave all the sticky glue behind, so I borrowed a caramel (AKA toffee) wheel, which did a fab job of clearing away anything that was left behind. Once the glue was gone, you could clearly see the paint underneath them was a lot shinier, so, I mopped the whole car again with the machine and G3 t cutting compound. I only recently did the whole car, so this is the last time i will do it as the paint is starting to wear a bit thin in places!! Oh and before the polishing machine came out, I gave the kamei skirts a wet sand to get the finish up to the standard of the rest of the car.

Another job i was doing in between polishing (as you do), was to do something with the rear badges. I was never happy with how the whole badge was black, and you couldn't even see the word 'Volkswagen', or 'coupe'. so I did this. Its prob not to everyone's taste, but it works for me! I like the 'polo coupe' badge the best as the lettering of POLO is black, and COUPE is in white. 8-)

The way i did it was to sand the whole badge including all the intricate bits with wet and dry, prime the whole thing, then paint. Once it dried I block sanded the faces with 600, 800, and 1200 wet and dry, and machine polished to get it back to a unmolested black plastic.

I plan to do the the edging around the 'S' badge in white as well but this will have to be done with a brush to be able to keep the red on the face of the badge.

And to finish off, heres a few other shots i took up at the canal basin. These were before I did any of the above work on the car.

As I'm off for the week, tomorrow will involve a few coats of wax on the paint. tyre, rubber, and plastic dressings, the S badge, and I MIGHT even fit the kamei spoiler with the high level brake lights. I'm not 100% sure ill use it yet though.. :-)

Good work it looks awesome dude

cheers mate :-) opinion on these badges then? you like them or do you think they could be love/hate too lol. I've got this red 16v badge from a mk2 golf 16v. Its similar to the coupe S badge with black lettering, a red face, and black backing. If I use it, I'll do it white and red, and slam it on the grill as it would be on the golf. undecided at the moment on that though !

Nah i really like the badges!! Think I'm gonna do mine the same way tomorrow maybe if i get time, just in silver instead :D woop

  • Author

Well if you do, make sure you spend ages wet sanding the whole thing especially in between the lettering as that's where the paint will want to flake off! and after you sand off the faces, the plastic will be dull with sanding marks so polish it like hell after the 1200 grit.

Loving the motor!!

I like the side skirts but I'm trying to picture them colour coded, too much red?!?

  • Author

the skirts will eventually tie in with black berg archers and valances when i got my arse into gear :-)

I like the badges :D Not sure on the skirts, sure it'll be differant with arches mind. ATM it looks abit bare with the mk2 bumpers.

  • Author

i kinda agree with that, but i was just itching to get them on lol. iI thought id ave the arches on as well by now, but you know how it is lol . I've just finished the paint off today after yesterdays T cutting . 1 coat of megs polish, 1 coat of poor boys polish, and 2 coats of megs liquid wax sealer. looks epic! pics to come :-)
