PC World has been in undated with this virus it has caused so many problems but yet people are willing to pay the £49.99 we charge to remove and fix the pc/laptop

Just make sure everyone is careful please, i got done by a different kind of virus last night by my own stupidity (although was only a link on google search) it still manage to screw my system.

*Doesnt matter what Anti-Virus you have or you think you have complete protection and you think you wont get it believe me you will, Not one of the Anti-Virus programs detected it obviously because its more Malware then anything.

Best Advice - Firefox + NoScript + PeerBlock!

System Tool is quite an old piece of scareware, but this version of it is a bit more prevalent! I've had to deal with a load of it for customers at work this week.

Luckily it's very straightforward to get rid of it.

XSS/drive by downloads are an issue and have been for some time but taking proper steps, such as Firefox and Noscript are simple steps to avoid it. Surely common sense should prevail when you see your browser prompt you to download an application you didn't ask for!

Anti virus software is there to detect malware (which System Tool is), whether it's detecting it via signature/database or heuristics. Unfortunately, I've not seen AVG for one pick System Tool files and registry entries at all - not yet at least.

Well this is it, this Piece of Horrible code came out in Oct '10 but revamped to be injected into the Ad System, Yet all you needed to do was click on the link to "what ever the site would be" and you'd be infected, clicking ads is not necessary as the exploit was done through java and other such exploits found on the adverts.

Indeed. It actually annoys me that we're in 2011 and web browsers STILL aren't hardened to a degree that would disallow drive by downloads. Well, I say that, to a certain extent they are, but not to a secure enough standard. With that said, the result would be that users wouldn't want it as it'd remove functionality from another area, and would therefore simply be disabled, even if such such security was an option.

It's one of them things which as a computer engineer gives you more work, but at the same time, is a shame that you have to deal with it in the first place. Whereas writing malware used to be done for fun, to show how leet you were compared to rival groups, these days it's big big business, and stuff like this shows that.
