Calypso green mk3

Featured Replies

So i just sold my bmw touring because i was abit bored and wanted some fun preferably a hatch from the 80's 90's.

I've had novas astras, golf's and bmw's in the past and modern stuff just isnt me. I had a look at gt's then spread to g40's but i didnt want the

troubles of an expensive supercharger rebuild so it was back to the gt.

I found this one in aldershot it looked great although oap in the pics but on seeing it it had laquer issues but being straight and solid with service history

i bought it. Ok i didnt test drive it just started it and looked around it it wasnt till i drove i noticed the seats were ever so high even with adjustment.

So a couple of blokes on here said scirocco seats fitted, i got a cheap worn pair for a £1 yesterday and instantly i can drive the car in comfort :)

needs some lowering badly now

plans are to decat it, lower it on the h&r cup kit, paint the bumpers up to the trim line and try the mk2 golf airflowmeter and maybe paint the bonnet and roof

I've got the grille indicators and stuff on the way

its got potential mate, just not a big fan of the wheels!

Looks a real straight example pal.

I think the wheels will look decent if you paint them grey / black and lower it.

I know it looks terrible with the lairy white but give me till the end of the month and i might change your mind.

But then again one of the alloys has a dent and crack i didnt notice, fingers crossed it can be welded

looks a nice wee polo very clean straight bodywork which is the most important bit.

set of clear front and side indicators and some rear tinted ones and it will look the buisness.

have to admit i like the original wee steelies and caps but each to their own.

oh if its missing the GT boot carpet i have one somewhere in the garage if u need one.

Happy poloing

Win!

Calypso metallic is clearly the best colour for a mk3 ;)

Looks tidy, i got a golf gti afm for sale if your Intrested...

I had someone take a look at the alloy and they took one look and said no. So going to look for a set of wheels next month.

Repeaters indicators and grille are now on and i have the phil j suspension kit and gti mk2 afi on the way but only 40mm as i dont want a to trashy ride. i have new topmounts and arb bushes to go on when the kit gets here plus 22.5mm master cylinder and

I also decatted the exhaust the other day.

Going into work tomorrow to fit new cambelt waterpump and put a new crank seal in, its leaking bigtime.

Still chuffed with the amount of parts you can get for these little polo's good tuning potential and fairly decent drive for an oldie :)

Standard rims look better.

I'm not so sure i mean a mean set of 19" back lit spinners might set it off a treat dont you think?

Just cause it ain't 70mm on classics don't mean it ain't cool. I quite like the way it looks. Get her down 60/40 and you're onto a winner!

Ok i dont have any pics yet i shouldve done work in progress pics :-( anyway I've done abit more to it.

Ok so i got my new alloys a few weeks back got some bbs rx2 splitrim reps with good tires only slight curbing. I had an ass of a job with the water pump it was machined incorrectly it had a lip so wouldnt fit it then i broke it in rage. Got a new one from halfords so there good for something and Fitted great. What i thought was the oilleak wasnt, it turned out to be the oilpump cover :-(. So i did that along with the sump gasket. Gay had to take the driveshaft out and i managed to pull the cv joint off aswell. I even took the chance and took the exhaust manifold off knowing the studs will probably sheer and they did. Got them out but the manifold is a right state all corroded on the face so just about seals. Put a another cat on but ripped the inners out and welded back up with a new lambda sensor. All works fine now although alittle raspy because of the decat.

I've also had the rear arch trim off to look for rust there was alittle bit on the arch lip but nothing a grinder cant handle. now treated paint and back on, I've gone over the shell and its good but does need some paint here and there because of the laquer peel but on the whole not bad :)

Looking good mate! 8-)

Looking Good mate ... Needs lowering tho

  • Author

It does look higher in the pics than in the flesh but I cant lower the back anymore because the spring cup hits the wheel and i tried a 10mm spacer but rubs the arch badly and cba with any arch work tbh. Defo needs lowering on the front badly might sort it out tomorrow.

Looks good. What size tyres are on? May be worth going for a slightly smaller tyre, especially if they are 15's?

Totally agree and hitting with the lowering stick :)

You'll get away with 60mm lowering on the front of that.

slightly smaller tyres and its a winner!

Hi there 195/45's I've chopped to coils out and got it looking level. It drives the same as it did before if not abit better as its not as coil bound. The rears one stage down now than before but i can only have one in the back due to mis-match rear tires as sidewalls are different

But since its pay day i just pushed the boat out and bought the H&R cup kit 60-40......:)

pics deceptive but i can barely get a finger in that virginal front arch.

Need arch work on the front so i need to get them rolled but hell people who said i wouldnt notice any drop on 60mm are nutters.

budget tires are not that great on the front as its slides out round roundabouts doing 50 but its staying fairly level.

Front feels abit loose but people do say polos arent that good at handling but a subframe should make it very good maybe just polybushes?

compared to the budget suspension its less bumpy and more like driving a standard car but when it comes to bends it tightens up.

got an audi grille I'm not sure about yet and I'm waiting on some englemann mirrors to turn up. Oh and the doenpipes about to fall off :(
