1986 golf GL with a difference!

Featured Replies

Right I've been thinking about this for a while and I feel I've gone as far as I can with this so I fancy another mk2 challenge!

Spec is as follows;

1986 D reg early spec 1.8 GL 4+E 5 door in Jade Green

Digifant 8v GTI engine from a 1989 donor

4+E gearbox for fuel economy (I regularly get 47mpg on a good run @ 60mph)

105k on the shell, 219k on the engine (don't be put off, it runs 100% and burns no oil, done 1k since last service)

GTI exhaust

New 239mm vented front brakes

Rear disc conversion with good pads and discs, new handbrake cables

New 16v master cylinder

Supersport -60mm shocks and springs

All GTI wiring looms, functional MFA

Electric front windows

CF wrapped window switch panel

Jetta GTI suede door cards

Early GTI 4 button steering wheel

3 door GTI seats (fronts fold down)

Laid flat rear wiper

Smoked indicators all round

15" BBS RAs with all good tyres

Early spec GTI arch trims

All original chrome strips on the windows

Good chrome strip small bumpers

All carpets were removed last week to rectify a leak, and were all thoroughly cleaned, the interior really is VERY clean

Other than the small bits mentioned below, the shell is very solid, no rotten wings, and the sills will hold fine with a widowmaker jack!

MOT till May (I know its short but it will pass 100%, I've changed everything that could fail)

Taxed till end of May

Now for the not so great bits;

Dent on front passenger wing and passenger rear door, see pics

Very small rust hole on rear valance, again see pics

Rear lights were DIY smoked, and they're looking worse for wear now

Bonnet is painted matt black, I have the original jade green one but it has bad laquer peel

Roof has some bad laquer peel also, see pics

Few scratches here and there, but it is 25 year old paint!

The roof bars are staying, they've proved VERY useful!

Ideally I'd like to swap with another mk2, preferably a GTI or even a 16v (insurance permitting), I value mine at around £800, I am in no rush to get rid of this car as I know it inside out now and trust it 100%!

Car is in Lincoln and my number is 07960 501529.

I've been down to the lock up today, fitted a new rocker cover gasket and rubber camshaft seals. Also replaced the taped up fuel hose, replaced a few suspect looking vacuum hoses, and cleaned the throttle body out. Took some pics while I was there...
