I got the RX-8 a couple of weeks ago after the old 300ZX got written off; the picture makes the damage look fairly minor but the wheel arch was all rusted up and had ripped, the repair work would have cost £1400 so I took the payout and moved on.

I have to say that I was pretty impressed how much off a mess the other person's car was after she'd driven into mine (my car was parked up at the time).

I'm pretty chuffed with the new car, it's so much lighter and responsive the the big lumbering zed, though fuel economy is just as bad as the zed.... The rotary whine just begs you to rev the nipples off it. Chucking it along some b-roads is amazing, can't help but find your self smiling.

I'll upload a load of pictures as soon as there's a nice day to go take some! I did take a couple of photos of the outside earlier this evening but the car is pretty mucky currently, I've been too busy driving it to clean it...

I have to say you'll be disappointed when you see the engine...it's tiny...

that hand brake looks like a joystick lol or the handle of a sword. cool car tho and haha to the metro driver. looks like a really high spec motor bud, one question though how the hell is anyone supposed to fit in the back!! leg room looks tiny

The leg room is about the same as a 6n Polo I reckon (used to go out in amd_man's Polo a fair amount), and compared to the 300ZX it's massive

First bit to arrive:

It's ruddy tiny compared to the one I've got kicking around for the 300ZX, it's about half the size. Also it's always fun to know my car shares parts with a KIA Magentis....

Yea the whole car is full of circles and triangles....

And yea it's the oil filter it shares with the KIA, similar story with the air filter. The old 300ZX used to have 2 Nissan Micra air filters though....

It's quite cool how Mazda have tied in the rotary theme throughout the car, even the exhaust manifold to cat flange looks to echo that same shape - although I'm struggling to believe that was intentional

Yea, I'm back over Easter for a bit, are you going to be in Norwich at all? And yep it means learner, I think there might be a senior version as well, it's something the drifters have though for some reason

Also filter arrived today fitted it within 15mins....

I probably won't be back till late June at the end of term.

i dont know if your aware that when you turn the traction off, it doesnt fully disengage. ie it keeps the abs on and the active stability and anti skid will still kick in stopping you from drifting fully.

put the keys in the ignition, hold the traction button, keep it held, start the car up with the traction button still held, after a few seconds there will be 3 dash lights come on, traction controll, anti skid and acitve stability. this basically turns everything off, like all the restrictions are removed. perfect if you have a nice quiet private area you want to learn the car more.

when you turn the car off it will reset to normal. I'm a mazda technician (been 4 years since i done this trick but oh so worth it lol)

Sounds like a good trick to try some time, though I was glad of the DSC when I went round the Nurburgring a few days ago and it was seriously wet...I crapped my pants round two of the corners when the back stepped out without me trying. I ended up going round really slow...a Lupo overtook me...

Spent several hours carefully routing a power cable from the battery down the centre console and all the way to the boot yesterday in preparation of fitting a subwoofer. For the moment I've got AMD_Man's subwoofer fitted in the boot in a generic sub-enclosure to test everything's working and because it wasn't being used. Anyway it sounds pretty good, just need to sort out my own subwoofer etc now.

Centre console missing...was a bit of a chore to remove but only took 5mins to reassemble once I knew what the hell I was doing. I did nearly lose some tools when I forgot they were still in there...

Thanks for that.. There I was laying in the boot of an rx8 and you run inside to grab a camera.. Was half expecting a dodgy bastard to walk past and shut me in!

60.000 miles and you'll need an engine rebuild ! Typical rotary engines

The engine'll be fine as long as it's looked after, they get a bad reputation because people don't know what they're doing and mistreat the engine.

Anyway if I did need a new one I'd just do a 3 rotor build or something!
