I seem to be getting carried away with stickers....

Gifts to myself from Amazon arrived this morning:

It's basically a book full of nifty stickers :D anyway I had the bright idea of sticker-bombing my engine cover as the bay is pretty dull; the Renesis doesn't make for an exciting engine bay.

Various pictures of the sticker-bombing process:

Took it outside to spray some clear lacquer on it in the hope that it'll make the stickers last longer. Should also give a nice finish:

I'm assuming there'll be a fair few people out there that aren't a fan of this.... :p I think it makes the bay look more fun though.

Masked like a pro... :ninja:

Not a fan of that, I would have colour coded it personally. But good work nevertheless

Nice is that mate, thinking of an rx8 or a 350z as an upgrade from the 16v, will keep an eye on this :)

I'll have to rethink my plans to stickerbomb the goof then..

Was oddly good fun doing it though, I was sceptical at first but it's grown on me, I can see the appeal, when else can a grown man get to play with sticker books?

Crying out for a new zorst IMO! Get it done Jim

I went for an RX-8 over the 350Z as 2 seats wasn't really enough and the rex is a shed load cheaper to buy. Can't comment on the handling of the zed but the rex is really sharp and a pleasure to drive.

I've got my eye on a Racing Beat zorst + sport cat on fleabay and there's a GReddy one so we'll see if they finish within budget....

Just won me something rather nice for the Rex on ebay, should be here in a week or so :D

Also reduced the size and number of pictures on the first page so it's not such a bastard to load....and played around using a photoshop plugin on some of them :p

Well it was about time I did some real modifications to the car so I bought this off flea-bay:

img3588resize.jpg

The system has done 15,000 miles but it was much cheaper than new so it seemed like a good deal plus the system comes with a lifetime warranty (the lifetime of the first car it is fitted to I think...but that should still mean it's good for 50,000+ miles).

I didn't really realise just how big the tips were on the system....also it came with a RAD hat.

I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed that I could fit a large McDonald's cup in so easily...it's a better fit than the cupholders inside the car anyway....

I finally got a chance to fit the new exhaust (there's nowhere to do something that major at Uni). The weather was shite of course so AMD_Man and me had to create a makeshift tent around the back of the car, sadly the tarp' we chose was a tad holey... The old system wasn't too bad to remove, just some stubborn mounts - one ended up being cut off to save time as we were getting annoyed by that point, nearly killed ourselves from the smoke it produced when being cut...having a tarp over the car didn't help either, proper hot boxing situation. Fitting the new system was far, far easier except for tackling the spring bolt things that held the mid-pipe onto the cat, a mole grip fixed that issue eventually...anyway we got the bugger fitted in the end.

It sounds MUCH more interesting than the stock system, nice low rumble and louder high rpm whine/scream and it doesn't make too much noise at cruising rpm so motorway journeys won't be annoying. Best bit has to be that it pops on the over-run now, makes it sound badass when nailing it to join a motorway...bye bye fuel economy....

I can't really comment on any power increases but I wasn't really expecting any to be honest.

Shame we didn't get any pics of the progress, was so busy struggling to breathe and being rained on by rust, carbon and lumps of molten hot plastic I sort of forgot about it.. still finding bits of the centre hanger in my hair now..

If it makes you feel any better I think it's a bigger job on the 4Mo... doing and hearing this has solidified my desire for a milltek now!

The tips are hilariously big, saw a few standard RX8s on the way back to Cov and couldn't help but laugh at the size difference

Well now that I've done an expensive modification to the car it's time for another cheap bit of customisation. The silver trim bits which run along the transmission tunnel were looking a bit worn in places and I fancied making them a bit more exciting...

img3715resize.jpg

I still had a load of stickers left from the Stickerbomb book which I'd been wanting to use for something interesting. Being able to completely separate the area to be attack from the rest of the car made the game a lot easier than it would have been otherwise.

Trim after I'd raped it...(used sticky-back plastic for the finish rather than lacquer this time, worked much better)

Adding stickers to the little bit of trim round the gear stick to tie it in with the other pieces:

Really quite happy how neat it looks:

I know I'm likely to get a lot of flack for this but I like how it's different from the other RX-8's I've seen! Plus it was a cheap way of making the car more mine. Anyway I hope there's someone out there that likes my strange taste!

I think this is 100x better than the engine cover, the trim bits that were silver were already separated from the rest of the black so by painting them / covering them in stickers / whatever, its in-keeping with the design a lot more and just seems to looks better.

The gear surround was a good shout too, just helps to tie it together, I'm still not convinced about doing one of the cubby box lids though

Personally I think the engine cover doesn't sit right as it's the one thing in that area so it sticks out quite a lot, this is a lot more subtle!

Sticky back placcy master skillz
