Engine: 1272cc 8v PY engine, mildly ported G40 supercharger, standard VW 75mm pulley, VW airbox, PPP manifold, Cat bypass, and Powerflow backbox (too loud) :(

Suspension: Adjustable Koni shocks with Eibach springs, solid nylon ARB blocks

Drivetrain: Helix fast road clutch kit, Quaife ATB Differential, ATV gearbox (replacing golf box it was bought with)

Brakes: Drilled and grooved discs with braided brake lines, standard rear drums

Wheels and Tyres: 14" BBS RAs wrapped in 185/50 Yokos

Exterior Styling: Alpine White paintwork, Standard trim, de-wipered rear, side repeaters deleted and relocated to front bumper, black VW badges front and rear, smoked reverse light

Interior Styling: G40 interior, Momo MonteCarlo steering wheel, 'Golfball' gearknob, OEM G40 boot liner, VDO boost gauge

ICE and Security: Alarm and immobiliser fitted, audio equipment removed

Finally fulfilling my dream of owning a G40, ever since finding one (the first mk3 that made me want a mk3, knowing nothing about the engine at all lol) and trying to get a quote at 18, needless to say that was hopeless. I made do with a genesis for a bit and got a bit more oompf from a remapped 6n2 tdi for a while. But never lost the desire for a G, and now i'm 21 the insurance is finally affordable, and had this snapped up the day before my renewal only 2 weeks after my birthday.

Got this little beauty of GTI Jack (top lad btw and would like to thank him for the car and the tea and biscuits :-) ) a couple of days ago, and finally found time to get some pics of it. Looking very much how i bought it, but have swapped the debadged grill for the standard one i had off my old red coupe.

It's in great nick considering the age, no dents at all that i can see. And the engine has not disappointed, acceleration in 2nd is insane, and I'm pleasantly suprised by how civilised it is when you want it to be (apart from the very loud exhaust :-D ). It has been rolling roaded at 171bhp in the past, and will be finding out if that has held up when i get the chance to get it RR'd

future plans are just to get it looking as factory fresh as possible on the outside, get it looking spot on inside as there's lots of little things to clean up, maybe looking for some corrado front seats as i've heard good things. Will be leaving the engine spec as it is i think, just keeping it maintained, the only performance mods will be in the handling:

Looking to add H&R cups suspension, a PPP subframe, and some better discs and pads upfront.

ye sounds about right, there have been a couple of female owners at least, one them getting a mag feature for this a few years ago, will have the name when jack sends on the mag, as i think this was left at his by accident.

I'm also amazed, almost mint condition on the exterior, and there's only a tiny bit of work to actually make it mint.

keep the g40 seats, they look lush compared to carrado front seats, unless you want comfort in a 170bhp beast?

lol well comfort is always welcome, i will be on the look out for a better condition interior (particularly drivers seat and rear passenger door card), the interior in ain't bad but i have pretty high standards interior wise :-)

going to do my best :-) trying to clue up on the mechanical side of things as much as possible, and hoping my 3yrs ncb will continue to build.

also going to have to wash it more than the 6n2 :-D as the paint on that was already a bit past it

i do feel like my life is that much more complete now lol. already 'hearing' the engine turning over in my head when its quiet (ie. relaxing at home) think I'm a bit obsessed

That is so similar to mine! Apart from the wheels and the engine trickery! J reg Alpines ftw! Sweet car by the way!

i am indeed, and yes i was :-D spotted me out lol? (edit: or heard me? ) i think we had a chat before when me and my mate spotted u cleaning your gt on the way back from town.

on a general note, have got a mate of a mate coming on wednesday to do weld up the only corrosion on the car (standard battery well hole)

and looking to sort the brakes out, so if anyones got any recommendations for pad and disc combos they're welcome. can u get a much improvement without doing a conversion?

Depends on what you want to do with the brakes? If you are gonna stick with the standard size or not?

I have got a set of brembo standard discs with some ferrodo pads, and they are good (much better than the groved discs and radicam pads i had before). Make sure you change your fluid and lines with some braided ones too

Would highly recommend them. Will be doing the same combination on my G40 when it needs them and also when i fit the 256mm brakes on the turbo

Yeah literally caught a glance of a white coupe go past the bottom of the road when i was out cleaning it.

haha have been spotted quite a bit by people in i no in the short time i've had it. Going to the next derby meet? will keep an eye out for u and the GT.

general comment: went to ultimate dubs today (technically yesterday) lots of epic stuff, although some things i wasnt so sure about, one of my personal favs was the florida blue mk1 golf with gold bbs.

Its the sort of thing that makes me want to spend some serious money and effort on getting this to the next level, proper OEM+ resto, with full on susp. and performance, and a spruced up bay.

will have to see how finances hold out for the next year or so to see if it can be budgeted in on top of all the maintenance, not to mention insurance lol :)

thanks :-) I'm guessing this is fairly rare, i didnt even know you could get electric windows on these, i kept looking for the non existent winders on the doors when i first got it

the first big expense has already showed up, looks like it needs a new clutch as the standard one has seen better days and slips on high rev gear shifts, looking for a performance jobby to replace it to cope with the extra torque that the mods have produced. Any recommendations?

sweet, think i will be holding on to them tho :-) they are epically good compared to the rubbish windows on my much newer 6n2

just found out i havnt had insurance cover pretty much since i bought this, scary could have been had over the bonnet by the police.

massive cock up regards to renewal, was expecting the amended bill in the post as was told it would be on the way when i arranged the change of vehicle. But instead I've had a letter, a full 12 days later to tell me the policy was discontinued!

I realise this is partly my fault for not being thorough enough, and finding other things to fill my time (like the car) but would have been nice to at least get a phone call to say that this was happening, as like i said could have got in a lot of trouble.

after calling them they wouldnt repeat the quote and wanted £2000 more! how that can be justified i dont know. was worried id have to let the G go already, but flip side i think i will actually manage to save £300 with another company who i hadnt spoke to last time i was looking for cover, plus two weeks "free insurance"
