As said above, try adrian flux, I've been quoted for a 130bhp limit at 20 years old (think youre roughly the same age as me?) with 2 years no claims for £700. I can't imagine that it would be much more than about £1200 for 170bhp.

i assume thats with your home Norwich address as rates in lots of parts of derby are a bit steep, £700 with mods sounds good compared to many quotes I've had, in nearly the same postcode (if you use a derby postcode).

more fun for me lol. ran out of petrol about 1 mile from home, coming back from uni, on a busy 3 lane road and managed to hobble into a well placed bus lay by. First time this has happened so was worried id killed the G already :( , but sorted out alright in the end, gotta get used to drinking a bit more fuel than i used to

You get it all insured in the end then? Hope they didn't hit you too hard on the wallet.

its actually worked out ok, its even a little bit cheaper now.

good plan, will definitely be investing in one.

Alex, this Insurnace stuff is fate! I only had time to cancel the policy I had on the car on Friday! There has been some personal problems at the moment and I've been getting my gf to do most of the stuff for me (I haven't forgot about the mag too) I'll try get this sorted tomoz dude, cars looking good, invest in some autobrite direct detailing buckets with grit guards for the paint! Helps keep the swirls away!

Insurance truly is the worst thing about owning a car.

and will have a look into the grit guard jobby, just been out and invested in a selection of cleaning products, and a jerry can

the mag would be nice :-D

got a VDO boost gauge fitted, lookin pretty good, but got to try and adjust the zero point

newly serviced charger, done by my own fair hands (with a little help from peteg40) probably replacing the one on at the moment before long.

took bloody ages but made it back home for last orders

also very interesting to see it all apart and see the mechanisms in action.

Sweet, how's it drive now since the chargers been done? Nailed anything lately lol!

its a new one, to replace the r1 for a bit to keep the insurance legit and a bit more affordable, not nailing much until the next student grant is in and can get a new clutch, its cooked when it comes to full boost lol.

but think i may be able to budget in some more epic handling goodies, stage 3 subframe, and quaife lsd...

ps. any sign of that mag??? :(

LSD is needed lol, I keep looking for a new mag mate :( I'm waiting for a reply from someone on G40 forum tho as to what the mag number is (there's loads on eBay but can't remember the number)

very nice, was rapid as it was.

nah just been hobbling around on it, i bought a clutch but sent it back as it didnt seem right, and the money had dried up and bought the charger instead. soon as may comes around will get sorted but its totally fine for normal driving around.

cheers matey, was a good spot, with only a few things to sort on it but already sorted out almost every bad point that it did have when i bought it. good g40s are still out there, and they do come up quite often despite their rarity, mainly due to people swapping to something 'more practical' :-)

not missed a beat yet :)

the serviced charger was swapped over (taking A LOT longer than it should have) and thats running well, things like pulley and airbox are now standard, mainly for the insurance, but does also make it a lot more manageable, although it would be the work of an afternoon to have it back in full on performance spec, the beauty of the G40 when all you have to do is change a pulley and chip to make a world of difference :)

still gotta get the clutch and diff fitted, been sat in the box for too long as have been kinda busy until now

What sort of mpg do you get from this running 170bhp?

definitely isn't 170 any more :) as so much has been put back to standard. Although i have to say there hasn't been a hugely different mpg from higher and lower power. As an estimate i'd say i get about 30-35 although could probs be less if really going for it

Have you had here on the rollers? Did you keep the stuff you took off it?

will get her on rollers eventually, though would be a bit of an extravagant cost at the moment, not chucked owt so that i can put it back to how it was if needed, although will need a new pulley as the one on it had distorted and become seriously stiff moving on and off the charger driving shaft.

other updates, changed the old sunroof deflector arms to some brand spankin' new stainless steel ones, a bit of before and after:

and a little picture of all the lovely new goodies i really do need to get sorted and put on the car, need to get down to tps and get some new bearings for the lsd
