fridgenugget's Canyon red 6n2 SE

Featured Replies

Model: 6n2 SE

Engine: 1.4 8v MPI

Suspension: Whatever is left of my FK AK Street Coilovers

Brakes: GTi 256mm front rotors and calipers.

Wheels and Tyres: Low offset. Aftermarket. Q

Exterior Styling: Return to OEM

Interior Styling: CC heated Recaros with black everywhere.

ICE and Security: 6 disc CD changer from a 9n. (Single contained unit.)

I fancied a change after my Satin silver 6n, and stumbled upon this for sale. Initially I wasn't too sure on the colour but I'd never really seen many 6n2's in canyon red (I haven't run the colour code through so I'm only guessing it's canyon red). In the end I decided it was worth a shot, so thought I'd see what I could do with it. Turns out it's quite a nice colour when it's had a good polish.

This is how she polished up:

I don't plan on keeping it standard for long, so watch this space.

Time for lowering...

P1000734.jpg

Was a bit worried that the rear wouldn't sit low enough as I've heard that AK Streets only go 75mm max. Suffice to say, I left the helpers out! (rear only)

P1000744.jpg

I noticed that the shocks drop a lot longer than the JOM Bluelines I had on my 6n. (and yes...even with the helpers in). Made me a bit worried that the spring wouldn't locate to the top mount, but it all seemed fine when we dropped it.

So much for being worried about the back not going low enough...

All corners complete. Has yet to settle, but it measured out to be a 110mm drop at the back and 105mm at the front. Had the fronts wound all the way down, and had about 40mm to play with at the rear. Bit of anti-rake going on, which I'm not a fan of, but I didn't particularly want to have to raise the rear seeing as it sat so nicely.

I thought about taking the helpers out at the front, but after checking the chassis clearance, it was apparent I'd be needing a notch.

This is how it's sitting just now.

Do you wanna sell your helper spring? (and the bits that got between the helper and the normal springs)

PM me please.

Afraid not, sorry. I'll need them come MOT time, plus it looks like I might as well put them back in. Take it you've lost yours?

Issues with local speedbumps... Couldn't make it over this because the exhaust bracket was catching. Buut, took an angle grinder to it, and all is well!

Another wee update.

De-wipered to clean up the back a little. Got the blank from Halfords. It's a lucky fit, but I may track down a glass blank in the future.

Crystal clear side repeaters! Was an eBay buy. I had so many to choose from, but I found these courtesy of "chubnut999" iirc. Was worried they'd be tacky ones, but I couldn't be happier! (I get excited over the little things)

Legal pressed plates. Nothing too dramatic. Wanted cleaner looking plates, but didn't want any police hassle.

Got some 6000k H7 HIDs.

Playing with the white balance in the snow

I lost enthusiasm for the car for a good few months, but finally got my act together and decided I'd make some changes.

P1010014.jpg

I wanted to try my hand at refurbing some wheels, so got my knackered set of 16v spec 6n wheels, and tried something a little...daring...

The end result:

Then fitted to the car...

There are other changes that I haven't shown in detail. Such as the front and rear badges being sprayed, and the satin black slatted grill.

All comments welcome, so tell me what you think. Personally I love it.

You know what i actually really like it mate..the colours are almost like a retro scheme..

Looks good mate :)
