Wondered where that plate went.

Glad it went into good hands!

Nice car, love the lows! How do you find the ride on the FK's with no helpers? Looks like there is no travel at all on the rear! I took the front helpers out on the AP's on my Golf and the ride was still good but there was still some travel LOL Also have you had any CV joint or drive shaft issues yet? Keep up the good work!!

Yup, cut it right out. The angles of my wishbones caused the ARB to foul on the chassis which, as you can imagine, had an adverse effect on handling! Once removed the car handled a lot better, but there was a noticeable increase to body roll. However, at the ride height I'm at now I'm working with such short shock travel at the front that the handling has gone to shit.

Haha. Yeah, it just moved to Scotland. Well I'm glad that you think it's in good hands! It's nice that it's still on a Polo as well.

Thank you. :)

There's plenty of travel on the rear! It's the front that's the concern. Helper springs have such a low spring rate that their contribution to handling is negligible. Unless you're meaning the resultant drop achieved once the helpers are removed?

Well the o/s chassis leg has been notched to accomodate the driveshaft, but other than that I haven't had any issues, touch wood!

Car looks Mean bro! loving the look and want that plate lol!

Thank you, that was the look I was going for!

I'm sure the plate will be passed on at some point, just keep an eye out for it. 8-)

Thank you. :)

No worrys I love the look of a slammed car rolling 8-) The helper springs are fully compressed when the ars on the floor any way aren't they?

I just mean is it a completely savage ride with them out? It wasn't when I took them out on my golf but there was still a lot of travel left and they were AP's which are know for being "comfy" coilovers haha Just in the picture below it looks like once the cars on the ground the shock will be bottemed out 100% of the time? Or am I being thick :-o

I asked about the CV joint because again on my old golf they lasted about 3000 miles because of the angle the driveshaft was, that needed a notch as well! Cheers

I see the confusion here. That picture of the rear coilovers is from the first time they went on. I ended up with the devil's reverse rake, so they were consequently raised up. I don't run helpers in the rear because I gave them to a friend, but I could easily put helpers back in at the height I'm at. I have 50mm of available thread for adjustment.

Now as for the overall ride quality, at the moment it's not worth talking about, but when it was higher the ride quality was perfectly reasonable considering the FK's are budgets. The main thing is to remember to trim your bumpstops accordingly. That's the main problem people seem to have. When you get it right, it's not awful.

I've never really heard of driveshafts being an issue with lowered Polos. They seem to take a fair bit of abuse. I ran my N/S outer CV dry for a week by accident. Packed it with grease and it's been fine since.

ok nice, thanks.

i bought this from H&R.

hrstabi.jpg

it is so constructed that it didnt touch the body. so i hope i can get much low...

if the driveshaft hits the body so i will cut the frame... i will see what happend...

That doesn't look like it will fit a 6n2, but it would be a nice solution if you can prove me wrong! Haha. I'll keep an eye on your build thread to see it installed 8-)

Ah I see, thanks for clearing that up! :-D

Yeah I remember doing the bumpstops before, all this trouble for going low! Completely worth though. I guess when your super low the ride is never going to be very good, still worth it though 8-)

Really? That's good news, I should be getting used to this by now. This is what the driveshaft looked like after being slammed for 1 week on my Golf, you can see where the chassis and arb rubbed!

Not a problem man. Yeah, you do have to make some compromises when going lower, but you just have to weigh up the pros and cons in your head to get an idea of what you want from the car. The list was mostly cons for me, but I just ignored logic and lowered it.

Again, don't worry about driveshafts. If you're unlucky and they do go, you're talking around £15 for a secondhand shaft from eBay and they're a piece of piss to change.

There will be some updates this weekend hopefully! Getting my finger out and jazzing up the interior.

All worth it though!! Thanks again for all the advice, looking forward to the updates

Ok, small update. I made a start to the interior at the weekend. It's a while away from being finished, but I'm very pleased with how it's looking so far.

Headlining trimmed in black acoustic carpet, pillars sprayed satin black, and black seat belt hangers installed.

The pictures don't do it justice. I'm using an iPhone camera, and it's difficult to take photos what with it being dark inside now!

Then we have a questionable fabric choice for various other components, namely the sunroof cover and gearstick gaiter. You won't all like it, but I think it's pretty cool.

null-11.jpg

The grab handles and sun visor mounts are only back in to hold the headlining on. They will be replaced with black items. The hey fabric on the door rubbers will also be trimmed. Either floral or black.

Then while I was at it, I put another cupholder in. Just a nice little oem mod.

null-12.jpg

Also my colour concept leathers are back in. That's it for just now. The next changes will be the door cards, parcel shelf trimmed, steering wheel, and various finishing touches. I'll also get a set of black mats because my floors get very dirty.

Let me know what you all think. Thanks for looking.

Looking great inside too!.

Where'd you get the material for the roofing from, I need to do mine!

Thanks. I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out. :smirk:

This was the stuff I got, but anything along those lines will do. Also you can get different colours.

I used this high temperature resistant fabric glue:

Sweet. Thanks man!!,

Managed to get the new wheels on at the weekend.

I'll keep this short and sweet, with just a couple of photos from a long the way.

So the wheels are 15x8 Rota Zero Plus (Work Equip 01 Reps)

Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

That is sitting too Nice

That looks soooo Good!!!

This is how I want mine sitting, I'm running 15x8 Rota's also (165/45/15), any tips of rach modification for the front? mine are a similar if not same ET. Fronts are rolled, its more the metal lip where the bumper mounts... :/

Also, are you running any camber up front? because my wheels are about 1.2mm away from the coilover rings at the moment but less camber obviously = less space in the arch :(

Any advice?

Jord

So sick. Been waiting for quite a while to see Zero Plus' on a 6n2 and damn it was worth the wait. Nice work

Thanks. I've got some more fiddling to do before I'm properly happy with it.

That's some brave stretch you've got going on there! Ha. My wheels are ET10. Yours must be ET30/35? The higher offset will be your issue with the close proximity to your suspension. Spacers will solve that problem, but create other clearance issues.

As for that bumper mount, I just cut mine out as necessary along with a fair bit of the metal inside the wing. I've also pulled the front wings quite a bit.

Thanks! It's a wheel I hadn't seen done either, which seems a bit bizarre.

Looks rad!

What size tyres have you gone for? Stretch looks mad

  • Author

Thanks. :) They're 165/50r15 Potenzas. They certainly provide enough clearance. Ha.

oooooommmmggggg <3 damn.... great job, mate
