Well decided I needed a new daily, so I could take my mk2 Coupe off the road and drop the Turbo lump in i have waiting for it. Been busy collecting new parts for the coupe :-)

So this is the mk2 that is coming off the road:

to have the G40 lump from this:

which will get the slight modded lump from the coupe, so a bit of engine juggling :-)

So to the daily..... well no pictures of it as i haven't got it yet!!! Ha Ha Sorry to disappoint with the lack of pictures..... But its on the way and is a slightly modded GT in grey, which after saying i would never have a mk3 again is a surprise to me, especially as i had got rid of all of my mk3 spares

Not having it, doesn't stop me buying parts for it though...

have a full set of these, 7 x 14 and 8 x 14 which should fill the arches nicely :-)

On the way is a lower brace bar to go between the TCA arms and a few bits to order include a catch tank, ICE, and tyres

Hopefully car will arrive this week

Well she is finally here.... arrived on 1st April

She was dirty, after sitting for a while..... so a quick wash...

None of the interior yet as it needs a good clean and needed fitting back together.... plus a set of front door cards, as a stupid error has meant that the ones for the car have been locked away for a few months

More parts purchased:

Weitec brace bar, front brace bar and prototype poly engine mounts (thanks Phil J)

Also not pictured yet are clear indicators (thanks Dubstyle)

Put her in for an MOT and it failed on a couple of minor things, mainly the emmissions due to the testers doing a cat test on the car, dispite the engine change out of a 91 car and me talking to them..... thanks, not!!!

Had fun on the way home though, ripped a fuel line off the car, due to lowness, and whilst fixing in on the roadside, Mr. Plod approached and enquired about the lack of Tax, just wasn't my day.... thankfully i had the MOT fail slip in the glovebox....

As the car is so low, the wheels have to go.... sooner than i hoped so the steffans will be going on very soon :-) and the fondmentals will be up for sale

Tis a small world, I think it one of the best colours for a mk3 :-)

It is cos the car should have a cat test, but the engine shouldn't, they refused to test it correctly on the engine in the car, instead going on the reg. It should have had a non cat emission test

I have got to find a garage that will test it properly, and not be lazy!!

I'm running a carburettor'd engne in a early J reg mk3 without a catalyst,

With it being an early J reg it gets slightly more lenient tolerances,

It should pass if the car is running right. They should test the car on the non cat test, which is much easier.

Just make sure its serviced well before hand and nice and warm. If my old Coupe can pass with a buggered pooberg on it, any reasonable carbed engine shouldnt be a problem....

Well a little update.... It's got an MOT now :-)

Only done a few miles as it passed on Tuesday..... Still running the charger in so taking it easy :-)

Fixed the wipers which was a new motor, out of a mk2 (just a note the linkages are ever so slightly different, so if you ever have to do it, swap just the motor)

Emissions were fine, when I got the right mot done :-)

It's now sitting on some bbs RA's in 14 whilst I get the steffan's refurbed :-) got a few more bits to do this weekend to tidy up, but hopefully going to Stonor park this weekend.

Then onto the other bits I want to do :-)

Well changed a few bits on this and gave her a wash :-) ready for Stonor Park

Stuck the RA's on (forgot to put one of the caps on ) clear indicators, European spec rear passenger light, oh and fitted some tunes :-)

Well been a little while now, so time for some updates....

On the way to Stonor the rear tyres were rubbing, and its only going to get worse when i fit the 8inch wide wheels!!! So a few emails and a call to Phil from Arch Ememy resulted in him and his glamous assistant turning up on a wet Sunday...

So all was well until one of my wheel bolts damaged a thread on the drum they tapped it out and made it ok and safe, but i wasn't happy....

So i found LeeG40 was selling a set of drums on the cheap.... so they arrived quickly, shame about the rain and lack of bearings due to a mix up.... so i cracked out the paint instead

And they are now ready to fit.... Hopefully now the bearing races tomorrow, and chuck them on with some new shoes tomorrow night (rain permitting!!!)

Had a go at sorting out the tracking a bit better than the first MOT garage did (there was massive amounts of toe in, clearly visable, let alone able to feel!!!) tonight. Dropped it down and the wheels are looking better, but will get it tracked properly in the next week or so.

Thought i would take a coulpe of updated pics, front wheels fit the arch's better now since fitting some G-Ladersite anti-roll bar blocks

Started to remove the vinal on the tailgate, but forgot how long it takes, so left it till tomorrow

So still to do:

Fit new corrado front seats and see about getting the rear bench trimmed to match (Surprised how comfy these G40 seats are, but the drives frame is bent so annoying..... but they have a nice OEM upgrade, they are from a LHD G40, so the passenger one is heigh adjustable )

Fit the new drums and shoes

Fit new uprated engine mounts (thanks to Phil J for these special order ones )

Build boot floor and sound deaden rear of car

Paint and fit strut braces

Paint and fit boot plinth

Sort out the stereo

Lastly refurb and fit my steffan wheels

Not too much to do, but its only a daily, should have most of thiis done by the end of the month now

I agree, but not back to black, cox it's shit!!! Will give it a proper wash soon enough and sort out the bumpers for you

Well been a little bit busy painting a few things.....

Few things to note, if wife comes home whilst painting using the washing line, she is probably gonna be a little bit angry..... which will get worse when she sees overspray on the kids too!!! Well they will run past whilst i am weilding a spray can!!!

Well they have been drying for a while now, just need final top coat and then laquer before wet sanding and then fitting

Still need to get round to sorting out my alloys though.... soon, soon....

Well got a bit more work done on the old girl today, sorting out the last bits before taking my mk2 off the road for an engine swap

Been rocking raddo front seats for a while, but not finding them as comfortable as the standard G seats, am on the look out for a standard worn seat as a replacement for the raddo ones....

Fitted the colour coded door handle trims, they look much better... Also fitted new drums and rear brakes as I had damaged a thread on one of the wheel bolt holes, and rather not take risks

Changed the rear engine mount, new poly one thanks to Phil J, got the others as well but no spare mounts to paint.... Bit of a test set here from Phil, hopefully get the others fitted in a few weeks, but really needed this one as I could feel the engine twisting and causing my exhaust to knock

Next decided to fit a couple of strut braces, no sub frames here as this is just a daily!!! So these came red and battered, so lick of paint, and much better :-) shame they will be stuck under the car to get battered again!!! So before fitment....

Done a few other little jobs too....

Centred the steering wheel

Sorted out a problem with the indicators

Fitted one smoked repeater, the other one broke forcing it in place, despite trimming to fit, cheap eBay shit!!!

Fixed the electric ariel

Trimmed a little more of the rear arch trim as it was still rubbing as hadn't been trimed enough when the arches were done

Also gave my boot trim some more lacquer, so just need to wait for that to harden before wet sanding, hopefully fit that next weekend :-)

No pics of the car, as a whole as not much has changed to be honest, well to look at!! All underneath...

Not hammerite, i colour coded them as i am doing a few other bits.... Just ready a bit sooner that the others as I didn't need a 100% finish, due to location of parts.

Thanks..... not hoping for any power really, its just a daily driver to get me to work and ferry the kids about in to be honest. Just needs to be reliable :-)

The mk2 coupe and mk1 derby i am building will be different and I am busy collecting parts for them

Super charged runaround to ferry the kids round?? mad lol by the way how easy was it to roll the arches as I'm thinking of hiring one and having a go.

Well hopefully i will be building a reasonable powered mk2 G40 as a fun car.... but before then a 1978 Derby GT to take the kids around in instead.... might be Turbo, but not sure yet....

So this is just a temp car really, just a bit of fun, and not doing too much to it....

As for the arches, i got arch enemy to do it, they have been doing it for years, and its quite a skill. I wasn't that expensive really. Yes you can do it yourself but i doubt it will be a neat or quick, though you can hide a lot under the mk3 arches....

Its up to you really, I can spray and swap engines etc, but get the professionals in when needed, I felt for the arches it was best to get somebody in

Time for a little update....

But not much of one.... been too busy with work and driving the car :-)

Just fitted the other two engine mounts from Phil, no pics as we know what a engine mount looks like, but definately a well worthwhile upgrade.

Might just be me, but gear changes seem crisper and pickup is smoother. Engine mountment under throttle is greatly reduced. After fitting the rear on, and getting rid of exhaust knocking, the other two have improved things even more so :-)

So a big thanks to Phil. I have even ordered a production set for the mk2, which says enough!!!

More pics this weekend hopefully, when i have some time to fit a couple of more bits and clean the thing :-)
