Took him (George, the kids named him) to the Westside show today. Didn't want to walk too far, so ended up on the show field..... hmmm felt a little weird driving my daily slag onto the show field, complete with kids mess inside and being the fact i haven't washed him in a while..... So parked up quickly, and walked away.... felt ashamed of him, i had made so little effort!!!

Couldn't resist getting a sneaky picture later in the day though....

Westside show was great, nice and relaxed, friendly with some very nice cars and George!!!

Still was best early Polo on the show field..... No competition!!!

Well no updates on this in a while due to the 78 Derby, work, christmas and spending too much time working on other peoples cars.

Decided i needed to do something about the daily, as it wasn't right turning up to valet/detail clients cars, with something that looked liked this:

Luckily my work is word of mouth at the moment, so they might start off questioning how I and the car look, know i do a good job, then a couple of hours later they are very happy.

Limited on time due to Christmas and weather unfortunately, so only a quick clean:

Well the process was:

Machine polished the bonnet, to see how easy the defects and scratches came out.

Thanks. I don't mind the tail pipes, just needs hanging properly to look right (just got a new hanger section bodged on there till I get the new exhaust) it the noise, only got a single silencer, fine on a turbo, but not on a daily with kids!!!

Thanks. Paint isn't great, though with a decent machine polish it will get better, I will be able to get the swirls out and give it more shine. It's annoying as there are a few scratches and car parking dings on her. Certainly not as good close up but what 20 year old car is??

Well had some fun with the G40 recently.

Last Monday went to start it from work, and the battery was dead. Left the lights on.

Tried a jump pack, and it wouldn't start. Tried bumping it, no luck. Wife came out with jump leads, and it would only run with the jump leads...... hmmm something up. Ran it on charge from the wife's car for 15 mins, and then it just. Got it home and thought it was cos the battery was soooooo dead.

Went to start it in the morning, fired up fine, but only had enough power in the battery to get it half off the drive before it died. So dumped it back on the drive and left it

Luckily had a spare car for the week.

So had a think, alternator looks deads, checked with Phil J and he confirmed it.

So on hunt for a new one, could get a nnew Bosch one for £192 exchange from VW (only people who could supply round here) and that would take a while. So checked out ECP and with their 25% discount I could get a Lucas on for £90, much more reasonable :-) Only I didn't know which one as there were two on the website, so new alternators:

So while the charger was off, thought about changing to toothies and a RS Charger, as i had it sitting in the loft:

Then thought it might go better with a Cam, which i have it in workshop. Hmmm should make it go a bit better......

But bottled it, was running out of time. So thought really, if i am going to fit it, might as well do it properly, new bolts for the crank pulley, followers, and there was a dodgy bolt on the charger. So gonna wait a little while and do it properly. Will take the G off the road and do a few other bits too.

Got a new interior coming off Robin, in the next couple of weeks, so the Corrado seats will be up for sale shortly. Want to sort out the stereo too, as i have some door builds to retrim and fit :-) Should make the interior a little nicer :-)

Then made a 200 odd mile drive up to Robin to pic up my new G40 interior, then back into Stoke to Fenton and autobrite for a training day there. Had a great day and spent a few £££ on products.

Nice 3 hour drive back in one hit as i was running late.... Did 400 miles up and down in one day at a fair old pace, car didn't miss a beat, though the drive with limited interior and rather loud exhaust left my ears ringing!!!! Thankfully i have the new exhaust to fit!!!!

Spent today cleaning the inside of the car and the new seats (well a few hours)

I have kept my old passenger seat, as its in good condition and out of a LHD G40, which means its height adjustable too, nice little upgrade

Mixed and matched the rear seats too, as my upper beanch was in better condition, quick clean

Now just to fit the interior

Although they sit higher, I think they suit the car a little better and look more in keeping with the feel of the mk3 Polo. Just need to fit the front door cards, as it already has G40 rear cards. Will do that once i have trimmed my speaker pods. Now to decide whether to fit the Corrado seats to any of the other Polo's of sell them? Trouble is I will always run rear seats, so the will need a retrim to make them look at home.... Bloody kids!!!!

Just need to fit the exhaust next weekend, after polishing it first, and then give the car a bloody good clean, the trip 'up north' has left her filthy!!! Then i will get back to the Derby

Still waiting to fit the exhaust, charger, toothies and do a few other bits the the car, but it was pointed out that one of the front tyres was a little bald

So set about pulling a spare set of wheels off another car, as i am waiting to get my cups back for this one. Didn't want to buy a a couple of tyres for just a month.

Gave them a quick clean before fittiing and all i can say is, wheel sealent is worth the money. 4k miles 5 months and then 5 months sitting, quick wipe over with some cleamer and they came up pretty muchh perfect, well as good as they were when the wheels were freshly refurbed, which was the first and last time i am using supposedily one of the biggest and best wheel refurbs around (but thats another argument)

Yes I know they need spacers on the rear, as they have a higher ET than the RA's which also had spacers on too. Couldn't fit them as didn't have the right wheel bolts. THink will probably chuck some 12/13mm spacers on there

and how how bad they tyres i took off where:

Good job i changed them, one on left was the worst, which was on the front. The other front was also illegal, but not as bad. Glad i changed them, couldn't believe how bad i had let them get, dangerous and also risk of 6 points

Well been a long time since i updated anything on this thread.

I got my Mk1 Derby on the road at the end of May, so have been driving it as a daily, coinsided with this ones MOT running out, so took her off the road for a while.

Planning to do some work on it, but been tinkering with the mk1 has left me not doing anything on this one. So decided to get my finger out this weekend, and get this G40 ready for MOT and a winter of abuse!!!

Been busy buying parts in the mean time for her, but onto that as i fit them over the next week and get it MOT'ed

So pic's as she was standing this morning:

Had to steal the wheels for the mk1, inspite of having about 15 sets of wheels, only had 1 set of decent tyres

So started her up, moved started cleaning:

Quick snow foam

Quick spray wax (only temp, plan to give it a proper clean this week) and wipe over with trim cleaner

Now onto some new wheels, only temp though, so which ones??

Schmidts in 14 x 7 with 195/45

Fondmental's in 14 x 6 with 175/55

Got a few bits to fix this week, like the exhaust i never got round to fitting, one of the big reasons why i took it off the road, plus few engine tweaks and some tunes

Well off for MOT this morning, had to put some wheels on for it though.... Decided out of the two I showed earlier, got tyres fitted yesterday :-)

Just on the quick drive to the MOT noticed how easy and quick it was to drive, compared to my Derby, and its easier to drive than the automatic corsa I have been using for the last two days!!!

Well sadly if failed its MOT on a few things mainly being minor things, like a ball joint and a loose wheel bearing. Also failed on brake compensator is stuck and lastly the exhaust was too noisey!!!

Well never heard of a MOT failure for a loud exhaust, granted the baffles had exited the exhaust, but it wasn't leaking. Well I already had it booked in with Longlife to fit a new exhaust i had. So this morning I adjusted the wheel bearing, then set off for Longlife.

Couple hours later had a new exhaust fitted, they have done a good job for a very reasonable price, sorry only poor pics in the dark for now

Replaced the ball joint this afternoon, slightly frustrated as the car is running G-Landersite TCA's which are under 5k old, on inspection after removal:

Now the actual ball joint is fine, its just the rubber is badly split hoping i can get it repaired, but a new pair will be on order tomorrow, then if i can repair this one, i will have a spare set ready for my mk2

Did a few minor fixes for the MOT. Going back to the garage tomorrow for a retest, and have the brake compensator fixed.

So fingers crossed for tomorrow. Hopefully the brake compensator will just need unsticking, rather than replacing.

Then i have a few other mods planed :-)

Not sure one the brake compensator, think they do. Thankfully mine was only stuck and freed up, as they can be a pain to replace

You can get ball joint dust covers from ebay. I bought some but I've not fitted them yet. I believe they were slide-a-boot ones in 'large'

they work . but the clips to hold them in place are shitttttteeeee

Which exhaust? The one from Phil J was about £250, however I am not using that currently. I have a 2 & 1/4 downpipe and couldn't get an adapter to fit the exhaust. Went to Longlife to sort this out and they talked me into one of their exhausts instead, wish I hadn't bothered now it's too loud (mot advisery) and been pulled by the police due to it. It also knocks on the car, which it never did with the crap old exhaust!!!! Got to go back, don't know how much it will cost once I have finished.... Best bet is to ask your local dealer as they are all different. Can't fault the welding just the actual exhaust

I should have stuck with phil's exhaust and gone elsewhere to get the adapter made and the tailpipe I wanted

Well been busy working on this little car, few issues with it.

It developed a running fault when giving it some stick the other day luckily Phil J is fairly close by, so a trip round to see him and 5 minutes later he has identified the problem, unfortunately its another Lambda sensor, second one in 15 months.

So need to work out why this is happening, either its due to the car sitting for a while (had been sitting for a while last time) or the chip is causing problems

So onto the car, paint has neglected due to getting it running right, so how it looks:

The indicator stalks had an annoying issue with the left hand turn shorting out, so whilst getting Phil to sort the running problem out, he sorted me out with some new stalks, and some clocks for some pimpness!!!

Well still working on fixing the car

New lambda doesn't work...... so either duff lambda or wiring, but with this rain I haven't been able to get out to the car to fix, but the weather has highlighted another problem.... damp footwell

So pulled up the carpet and stuck a dehumidifier in there..... managed to remove nearly 5 litres of water from the drivers footwell!!!!

All dry in there, underlay still drying in the house though....

Booked some time to find the root of the problem on Saturday/Sunday weather dependant. Its either the battery tray, or drivers door. Battery tray always looked solid, so hoping its not that. Also going to check the wiring on the lambda too, to get it running right hopefully, then I can get back to modding it again
