Big Burts 92 Polo GT

Featured Replies

I would get the 3F ECU back in, with a decent chip. The ECU should adjust to the new displacement, but the map will more than likely stay the same.

Regarding the manifold, it depends what your wanting from the engine, having the smaller bore PY/NZ inlet manifold will make the engine "peak" earlier and be punchier at lower revs, but the bigger bore 3F manifold will be able to flow more air at medium to high rpm so you'll shift the powerband and peak power up the range.

If it was my car, i would get a GT inlet manifold welded up to fit the AEE head, then do some light porting etc. If you want you could send it me and ill skim in up and make sure its nice and flat.

Definetly get a high lift cam, one for a 86c engine (mk2-3) will fit, you'll just need a vernier pulley (from me :-D ) to time it up properly.

Would make a very fast car!

Some progress :-D , Max , it was running a GT ecu anyway , i forgot to put the chipped one back in . So today I've finally sorted the inlet leak , made 2 new gaskets from gasket paper and also added the o.e. gasket for good measure sourced some better sized socket head bolts and its clamped up nice and leak free, idles almost perfectly.

I ran out of time to do anymore , needs timing up again and then i think I'm nearly there.

Max your right about the nz manifold , it has loads of low down power but just runs out of puff too quickly . I have a gt manifold so will be adapting that shortly.

I've fitted the chipped ecu back in which has made it run a lot smoother , anybody who has a GT should fit one of these chips by the way .

High lift cam does seem the way to go next , however i have something coming in the post that might prove helpful.

Cheers comments welcome Mark

thats good news then!

The torque biased aee will always have that sort of characteristics,

So indeed the best thing you can do to free it up is fit a 3F inlet manifold and a lairy camshaft , preferably a 272 Newman and a vernier pulley.

Looking forward to seeing it again!

Max do you think i need more valves ?

I might have a play about with wheel and tyre size as well , the 195 / 45/ 14 are tiny , i also have another gearbox to try.

Are you going to the rolling road day? Regarding the Newman cam , i take it it is designed for the 1.3 engines? I.E. fitting would be the same as if i fitted a GT cam?

Do you want my address for the vernier pulley? :ninja:

Ill be at the rolling road day, hopefully in the coupe!

The newman cam is the same desgin as the 3F so yeah it will fit with a vernier pulley.

Are you using a GT gearbox?

Yes Gt box fitted at the moment , i have the box from the 6n as well DCC code which I'm sure is similiar ratios to the atv box?

Keep the GT box mate.

So whats the chip you've got fitted?

Get some ARB blocks on this!

Make me some then, you can put them in with the vernier save on postage :-D .

Lol, they take a lot of making dude.

Are you wanting a vernierniernierrrnier?

I only clicked this thread because I thought you had added 8 more valves, I now see I was mistaken.

While I'm here tho have you got a GT or spi dizzy on it? It's just that they have different firing timing so might be worth swapping between the two to see which suits this setup best.... Anyway I'm off to read some more 16v threads...

  • Author
 , youll upset Max with that blasphemy! Gt dizzy , the AEE is a multipoint engine ,has the same trigger wheel.

Ah new worries then mate

Hmmm still only 8 valves, i'll keep coming back and checking to see when the inevitable happens...
