so dont lower it as much - how low are you going?

cause your affecting the handling. Any handling, bigger brakes, engine mods makes the insurance go up cause your a risk.

i think that. if your 100mm down you cant go faster than 30mph on most of the roads near me but insurance still goes up the more you lower your car. i think the stupidest thing is if you put better brakes on then it goes up... well with my insurance that way the case anyways.

unless you do what i do and dont tell them.

you mean void your insurance and be a complete dick for posting it on a public forum?

thats my bad,i was always told if you say smash your car up there replace your modified parts with standard parts. Also if i was stopped how come a copper dont say your insurance is voided cause you haven't declared your modifed parts??

Because they don't know if you have declared or not, and tbh insurance companies know what they are doing completely and that is maximising their profit, they aren't doing us any favours whatsoever, they give us a piece of paper, take thousands off of you and if you don't crash they keep the thousands of pounds you put away in case you have an accident, which if you haven't had a crash means they did not need the thousands of pounds whatsoever as you didn't crash, the real question is why do they keep the thousands of pounds after a year of not crashing? because they are maximising profits

tbh the whole insurance system is based on making lots of profits, if you lower your car you are not increasing your chances of crashing, for example a Ferrari enzo is much lower than a corsa, but this factor does not make the car more likely to crash, and before anyone says lowering a car a reasonable amount does not make it dangerous only when people go to extremes or make a bad job of it

This system would make more sense in my eyes, why don't we store whatever they charge us in an account (instead of giving it them to "keep safe") and have it as your insurance account, and if you ever crash (not just in one year, over time) you pay for the damage etc... with the money in the account and pay the insurance company a small amount of money at the beginning of your insurance to help deal with the legal stuff what in theory is the only real thing we pay for (if we don't have a crash of course). But of course this won't happen since this would reduce their profits, the only changes we will ever see is insurance getter more expensive. there was a glimmer of hope when that recent sexism thing went through but they'll just increase the price anyway to combat this. People will most likely find faults with this but its just an idea that i've had.

why would they ever make it cheaper? as they'll just lose profits!

my rant over :p

ye but if you hit someone and almost kill them you will have to pay out like £1,000,000 and obviously you wouldn't have that in your bank. most the people pay out and don't get insurance involved anyway because there scared of loosing there no claims.

so why isn't our insurance £1,000,000 then? thats what i mean, the amount they choose has no relavence to anything

except profit of course

because in that situation the insurance company would lose out, thus increasing your premium. If you smashed into someone in a top of the range merc I don't think they'd be too chuffed when you offered them the £1500 you saved in your bank in case you had an accident rather than paying it to an insurance company..

maybe i didn't make this clear enough, i mean if it cost me £1500 to get insured on a mk3 gt with churchill, the £1500 would then be put in an account instead of them just taking it in case you have an accident, and next year if you had an accident the £1500 would be then used or more if more was put in etc...

or is there an actual reason they keep it?

i think everything about insurance does make sense but i just think its to high, your first year should be hight seen as loads of people do right off cars but after a year it should go down a lot.

or is there an actual reason they keep it?

the reason they keep it is to pay for the claims made by other drivers and a bit of profit. tbh i don't see insurers making loads on young drivers if they were every insurance company in the country will want your business.

insurers are only there to make money and most see young drivers as low profit so either don't offer their services or at a ridiculous prices.

Ah I get you now, but yeah as said above, its to pay for other claims, and to make them as much profit as they can squeeze out of every motorist.

wow!!! should of stayed ontop of this topic lol...... basically i rang up to see if they would quote me on a set of coilies so anything between 8 and 10cm but i only insured it mid febuary and this my 1st car so will leave it till next year and ask them just a bit miffed because i would proffer it to be lower..... the positive is that it frees some funds up to get the rest of it sorted

cheers guys thanks for the help.

look at it this way, i'll use smaller numbers because other wise it will confuse the shit out of all of us lol...

you and 5 other people are with an insurance company, you all pay 1500 a year, that's £9000 a year that company is making. now it only takes one of the 6 of you to crash into some one with say 2 passengers in the car and with the cost of repairing the car and forking out for personal injury's and legal fee's, that 9k they had is pretty much whipped out.

the money collected by an insurance company gets spread out, some goes into a pot ready to be dished out in claims, and some goes to profits. now if a company has a particularly bad year and that pot runs dry what are they going to do? they can't eat into their profits because this is the real world, if they ain't making profits they will go to the wall. so they have to up the amount they charge for their services, it's the same in any business. if overheads rise you have to up your price to cover the losses.

any one that thinks insurance company's are making big profits atm are deluded, they are struggling like every one else, just look at home many have either go out of business or just stopped doing car cover, because there is no money in it right now and a big reason for that is that so many people are looking at cash for crash scams as a way of getting money in hard times.

also the government has just raised the tax they charge insurers which has also had to be passed on to the driver and the VAT increase will also push it up.

Good post mclovin.

Saved me a job.
