  • If I decide to go in I'll be leaving a trail of bread crumbs so I should be safe

Go big or go home do you mean?

Looking forward to discussing the engine over a beer in the up and coming camping shows 8-);)

A good method for fitting the clips is a piece of thin walled pipe and a rubber mallet...

Surely its the same thing?

Yeah should be good mate, this is by far the most indepth engine work I've done so its been fun learning new shit as I go. What this pipe and mallet trick you speak of?

I suppose, go home sounds better though

Its the funnest part of the build in my opinion, if you want to really get stuck in, get on amazon and buy "Four stroke performance tuning", by A. Graham Bell.

I think you would really enjoy it.

The pipe trick we used was to rest the clip over the end of the gudgeon pin, piece of pipe over it, then slowly/gently clamp in a bench vice (use soft jaws) , then tap home with a mallet.

Cheers for the heads up about the book but I've already got my work cut out reading about omex...

That will keep me going in the reading department for now mate

high lighter at the ready

This is fucking confusing

That mapping session at aldon is looking more and more tempting tbh, at least I know they will get it running bang on

It's just a lot to take in in one go. I think if I can get a base map for a 16v vw engine i'll be more confident to at least have a bash at setting it up myself, but I'm not gonna attempt to remap the xe map

So do aldon and they have already offered me a discount on the mani. I will message yoof tho and see what he says

ask him how to fit an avy hybrid

Planned to do the popped slave cylinder today but got caught up sorting out a mates car, by the time I got back and got sorted it was 4.50 and had started snowing

IMAG1137.jpg

With about 15 mins of daylight left and a covering of snow considered putting it off, but where's the fun in that?

IMAG1139.jpg

And done

IMAG1141.jpg

Brakes feel nice and hard now and have much more feel 8-)

Mentalist!

I started at 9:30, and locked myself in the workshop. When we emerged at 4:30 it was like: "WTF? Snow!?"

Thats what i'm talking about, dedication.

I end up doing more work in cold/rain/snow than normally haha :p

Always good to have brakes...when you doing bushes so we can race for slips properly?

Got bored earlier so thought I'd play with some nitromors. The RH cups ain't in bad condition really but they are suffering from some laquer peal on the dishes and the rear two have a bit of kerb rash so a light refurb is in order.

IMAG1184.jpg

And with the laquer removed

IMAG1188.jpg

IMAG1186.jpg

Still gonna need to get them on the car and wet and dry them but with that shit off the dishes I can start with some really fine year wet and dry rather than having to work my way up, should give better results and be less effort 8-)

jack car up, leave car in 5th gear = homemade lathe. polishing win

you should see his last video of him doing that!

No idea if I even have that video, think it may of been a mate that had it on his phone. I know he posted photos up of me doing it in his build thread on the caddy forum

Almost forgot I picked this up on Saturday

IMAG1194.jpg

Got bored again earlier and took some 1200 grit wet and dry to the dish but couldn't find the mop for the drill so couldn't polish it :disgust:

This refurb ready for when I come to collect? Iv heard you mk2 looks good on ronals
