Comedy ride height and the venoms will be gone once its passed the mot, they will be going on the mk3 so I can get that mot'ed and sold on. This will either have the hocks or the power techs on it, either way it will need that Pikey Sump protection

I'm gonna try my azev's on at some point to see if they clear the steering arms, if they do i'll probably run them at some point too cause I reckon they'd look the tits on this stanced up

I like :) it looks like it should be there.

Very nice tidy install guy.

I like your work

Any other plans for this? Or is it just a 100bhp low as fuck go kart again lol?

The main plan is to get it on the road so I can concentrate on the Chevette, but yes this will be just a standard set up and low for now 8-)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that :)

Been to collect more stuff for this today

Pretty much every thing i need to see if it will run, so if the rain holds off tomorrow I should be able to tell if i've fucked any thing up when rebuilding the head

hmmm well the test of the rebuilt engine didn't go exactly to plan. after robbing a load of shit off the mk3 it fired up first turn and other than noisy tappets (i'd bleed them all so was expecting this until they refilled themselves which they never did) it sounded good. started to make a real high pitched squeal which i thought was some thing to do with the belt so started to investigate just as the engine sized up. seems it was being starved of oil for some reason, all i can think of is a blocked pick up or there just wasn't enough oil in it. it was showing on the dipstick but i didn't take into account that the sump was now a lot shallower than standard so maybe it needed more in?

any way i can only assume that that engine is fucked, in hindsight the squeal was probably metal on metal, but we live and learn

i'm picking up the new engine on sunday although i think this one is a later one with the different oil pick up meaning i can't run the shallow sump on it. so to get around this i'll be fitting that engine into the mk3 and the one from the mk3 will go in the mk2, that weekend should be fun

Damn :( was looking forward to seeing a video of it running or at least of it seizing up.

Dude :-( , that's not good, did you try and turn the engine over by hand after?

Sounds like your main bearings are shot

  • Author

yeah think that's what it probably is jon, at least if it is i should be able to use the top end again. i know that head gaskets ain't reusable but what if they have only been used for about 120 seconds?

leon just for you

th_VIDEO0017.jpg

you can just about make out the squeak in that video but as you can tell it wasn't consistent and honestly sounded like a squeaking belt or pulley, which is why i started revving it and poking around the engine, in hindsight probably not the best form of attack

cheers dude, i was waiting for the seize but it never happened. i was expecting a big squeal the engine suddenly stopping and you shouting what the fuck was that.

i was disappointed.

Ib the words of a not so wise man

Doh!

awww damn that sucks dude.

was it the oil pickup in the wrong position or something? defo main bearings running dry there

i was unconscious :-(

i know that head gaskets ain't reusable but what if they have only been used for about 120 seconds?

It really depends on whether it got up to temperature! If it was still cold then it's probably re-usable. Obviously not advisable, but do-able.

i'm pretty sure it didn't get a chance to get warm

would i be able to replace the main bearings without stripping the head from the block? i'd imagine that it's all done from the bottom? what damage would probably be caused, just bearings or damage to the crank, bearing seats ect?

just wondering if it's going to be worth rebuilding it (again) or just stripping off any thing that's any good and weighing the rest of the lump in

Edited by McLOVIN

You can do them without taking the head off yeah, If it was me i'd probably just buy a used bottom end for 50 quid and stick that in tho.
