Pulled this out the lock up earlier and brought it home

IMAG1798.jpg

Tried the eyebrow spoiler on it

IMAG1803.jpg

The spots have never worked due to the wiring being cut at some point in the past, sorted that

IMAG1804.jpg

Started pulling the engine apart as well sorting out what needs to be kept and what can be sold on. Seems strange but that's the first time the enormity of what I'm doing has hit me :?

you can bring the bonnet spoiler to mine and fit it on my car if you like lol ;)

eyebrow spoilers look shit i think you should take it off :p hahaha

bout time you got it home though!

Looks SO good in the first picture, the eyebrow looks shite though, totally ruins the period look.

By the way, how are you mounting the charger?

  • Author

Good job I'm not going for the period look

I don't even know if the spoiler will be staying, I'm gonna get it painted up with the rest of the car and then make judgement, but it is growing on me.

I'm going to mount the charger using a mounting bracket, how else would it be mounted?

Ah right, well i've got some spare kitchen cabinet brackets here, you can have them if you want?

I mean is it going under the inlet manifold, or where the G40 charger is mounted?

Is it a custom mount that people use when they mount it at the front?

  • Author

Oh Yar, if you could send them brackets down I'm sure they will be reet

I did look into mounting it at the rear and that would of solved a lot of issues (heat soak, space, no need to change rad ect). Unfortunately the chassis leg would need extensive modifications for the multi v belt to fit between the engine and leg, that's not something I want to be getting into so i'll be mounting it in the conventional place. It will need custom brackets making up and I'm looking into the idea atm of having both the alt and charger mounted static and using a cam belt tensioner from either an AFH or AVY to tension up the belt.

Gonna spend a bit of time mocking it up later and see where I stand, might have to use a 1 litre rad and drop it down about 5" to make enough room for the charger and boost pipes

Woop it begins!! Best of luck mate!!!

Cheers harris, I'm gonna need it :lol:

Luckily I have some absolute legends helping me along with this other wise I would be fucked :lol:8-)

Haha that's why I said it!! ;)

Like you said, get it mocked up with the engine on the new mount then fuck about with making everything else fit around it!

Kiz has had his thinking cap on and came up with a possible solution to the charger position issue, gonna get out and have a mock up/play about with it in a min

Massive thanks to Pete for this haul of goodies 8-)

i think your now just ahead of me engine wise

makesure you keep updating this with lots of pretty photos

I think kiz is onto something with that new location! Seens very viable! Good luck boss :-)

spill the beans then

Spent hours outside trying to mock this up, my conclusion is its gonna be fucking tight

First up kiz's idea as I have some usable photos of that

His idea was to fit the charger above and to the front of the gearbox and run a shaft from that to a mount with bearings in and the pulley on it. The advantages of this are that the charger is well away from the exhaust which would give heat soak, its using wasted space and the air filter would be well away from any heat. After offering it up, the way this would work would be for the shaft to run behind the exhaust and the bearing housing be mounted where the mk2 engine mount would of mounted to the block

The inlet would need adjusting slightly but its not far off

IMAG1819.jpg

The other way is the more conventional way

It would be mounted on the cam belt side with the outlet pointing down, I would need to move the rad at the very least and possibly have to change it for some thing else

Shit pics but it was getting dark and my flash wasn't working

if you ran it in the first place you have said then you could instead of running a shaft behind the exhaust you could possibly run it off the end of the cam where the dizzy is

make an adapter/pulley/spacer so a pulley that runs off the end of the cam that also still runs the dizzy but spacers it further out so the pulley to run the charger would sit inbetween the head and dizzy

if you get my meaning just a possible idea

I'd run kiz's idea and use a driveshaft as you basic "bar"... Good starting point I'd think.

  • Author

Pete that sounds very complicated, and Ben that just sounds fucking heavy

I won't be running a dizzy anyway, but I wouldn't feel comfortable putting any sort of load on a cam, its far to easy to slip a tooth when doing so which would be gay

Guy, just get a leaf blower and link the throttle to the peddle and wack the blower straigh into the Throttle body.. Problem solved...

Serious answer.. Really :ninja:

Haha, I ment for the steel... I guessed its already balanced so turning it down wouldn't be bad plus its good quality steel? (Might not be I duno) and a drive shaft is cheap..... And I know you a tight ass (uww err)

summat like this ? or are we back to lack of room :-D

frontdsideblower.jpg

Is that a turbo that's been modified for shaft drive Mark

Looks good and if it is would save weight to compensate for the drive rod and fixings

Dunno  , i think its a Rotrex supercharger , it was more to illustrate an alternative position , although i have no doubt Guy and Kiz have been through many possibilities .

Diffuculties i can see is in mounting it to the Afh ?

The rotrex chargers are kinda like a belt driven turbo.

Shaft idea seems viable as there is a lot of room above the gearbox!

And a shaft with a bearing in will be fine too. Driveshafts are like that on a lot of cars

As good as these ideas are, its gonna be pretty expensive ain't it?

I'm favorable to the conventional place, its simple and there's nothing much to go wrong.

You could then get a nice thick heat sheild made up to covers the charger, and make sure there's a nice vent at the front of the car to aid cooling the actual casting of the charger, i should think with an adequate inter-cooler heat soak shouldn't be of a big concern!

That easton looks awesome by the way!
