Golf ABF throttle body is a direct fit to the gti manifold and has a tps already on it

There are two types

One on the left is a direct fit on on the right is the same style as g60

i'm going with a G tb as these already have a valve to release to boost at idle, i'd find it easier to put a tps on a tb than to knock up some form of blow off valve. might be worth looking into the abf tps tho

Why can't you just buy a BOV and fit it in the boost line Guy

Why can't you just buy a BOV and fit it in the boost line Guy

Aye that would be easier?

What does it actually do that valve, literally open when the engines idling?

As the throttle butterfly closes that opens up and prevents the boost from blowing the butterfly into the inlet mani. I could use a dump valve in the boost line but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so, if for some reason it fails its gonna cause some damage, I'd rather have a mechanical valve like this that is tried and tested, its a factory setup designed to work with a super charger so just seems logical. It's easy enough to retro fit a a TPS to one anyway

I'm not saying the bov route isn't a good one to take, just that I'd rather doing it this way as its what I feel more comfortable with

Think i'll be using a re-circ valve instead anyway, don't like the noise of the dumpvalve.

Using a bit of 8V engine goodness is a good thing guy, can't go wrong with a bit of G!

Also, been thinking about using something like this for the set-up stage, as i want to slowly adjust the boost whilst getting the fueling and ignition correct,

Or is something like this a load of shit?

That's for a turbo max

That can only increase boost from standard level as it bleeds off some of the pressure going to the actuator fooling it in to thinking there's less boost that there is. Works fine on turbo's (its what I tend to use on the denzels) bit useless on a supercharger

LMAO, i'm a massive idiot.

I didn't even read the text,

Could it not be situated in the plenum, and then bleed some pressure back to the intake? Thus controlling boost pressure?

  • Author

In theory yes, in practice it just couldn't bleed anywhere near enough boost off to do that

Looks like you know what your doing dude, did you read a book about omex?

Next years action should be pretty scary...

8-)

Got the mounts yet guy? They got posted someday thats wasnt yesterday... bad memory...

nah not here yet mate :-(

finally got the boot lid prepped for paint

and thanks to kiz and his ETKA i now know i was running the wrong crank pulley. the AVY one is weighted and the AFH one isn't, this wouldn't of helped the issues i was having with the too light flywheel at all

weighted AVY crank pulley

the AFH style one can be seen here (photo curtasy of mikey  )

fair amount of difference between them

6n engine mount has arrived (cheers Matt 8-) ), had a little mock up and it looks like i'll have to take a slightly different route than I had imagined, but nothing drastic. The 6n rubber mount is fucking huge and would need extensive modding to the mount and inner wing so fuck that. I'm now going to use the mk2 rubber mount, i'll extend the mount bracket by about an inch to give clearance on the inner wing for the mount and then i'll knock up something to weld to the inner wing for the rubber mount to sit in. I'll probably strengthen it a little from under the inner wing too

Got a few pics but nothing of much interest

I think you should use the 6n mount tbh and build upto the right place using the bit of 6n chassis for that mount you have

it would save a lot of hassle with the charger mount And clear up that area abit

  • Author

this will still mount in the same way as i intended but using the smaller mk2 rubber mount instead of the mahusive 6n one. the one in the pics is the mk2 one and it still needs the metal bridge bit lifting about an inch (you can see some of the washers i used to space it out for mocking up in the pics), and you can see how tight the bottom of the rubber mount is to the inner wing. the 6n rubber mount is like twice the height of that rubber

this will still free up the space in front of the engine, i'm just using a smaller rubber mount and instead of welding in the part of nicks 6n inner wing that the mount sits in i will be making my own much smaller and neater one because no matter how much chopping i did i couldn't get it to sit well and it just looked very out of place, the design i have in mind should be stronger anyway

the con rods had some attention today too, the oil hole was drilled in the top of the bush and the last of the surface grinding was being done when i left :-)

Fucking forgot to re-bid on that eaton :crybaby: , so gutted!

So i take it your just gonna build a small box for that mount to mount onto, which will then be mounted on the wing?

Is it strong enough there?

  • Author

yeah thats pretty much the plan, if it doesn't look strong enough i'll just reinforce it. the box will be seam welded and go from the top, round that rad and down the side of that part of the inner wing to spread out the load a bit

what did that charger go for?

  • Author

I'll just leave these here

Glad you got them mate, sorry it took so long! I'm useless with posting shit. Get this on its way :)

if your just leaving the rods there i shall come and collect them ;p

are you going vw action this weekend Guy I'm unsure on whether to pop down or not

  • Author

Nah I'm not going mate, pretty much writing off this year and hoping next will be better for actually getting to some shows
