i've already got a full bare engine ready to collect to chuck in the car for now, i'm just thinking i've already rebuilt the top end of this, might do the bottom end over winter so i've got some thing to do in my warm shed to keep me occupied on the cold dark nights

New engine is now fitted just gotta finish bolting every thing back on and wire it in

I'm sticking with the standard afh Sump on this one so to prevent cracked Sump dramas I've armor plated it lol

Looking good man!

I need to do something like this to my sump haha

that looks spot on , will you use a oem airbox for the stealthy look?

  • Author

Cheers lads 8-)

Air box wise I've got a small shiny k and n to go in it, if I can find a cheap enough second bonnet I'm thinking about cutting a hole in it and having it poking out slightly like some muscle car do lol

No please dont this looks so original enginr bay wise. I reckon some oem pipework and a standard airbox with a k and n panel filter would look immense! credit to your thorough work. You must live in pothole/speedbump city as your sump loks killed yet I'm down 85-60 and yet theres not a scuff on mine and i go over roughly 10 speedbumps a day and park up on a kerb?

That's my mk3, already done the trying to look oem thing mate and tbh its a bit boring and the standard airbox hits the bonnet making a squeaking noise at low rpm and rubs the paint off where it touches. Besides the car is far from standard so keeping the engine by looking so would be pretty pointless really, might as well have a bit of fun with it

That battered Sump was on the mk3 when I was running very low tbh, and like you I park on a curb and tackle a fair few speed humps just to get off my estate. Iirc that was the Sump I cracked at vw action last year then welded the shit out of it to live again, a good Sump will never die

Any updates on this you pikey!!!

yes mate, had some issues with the new engine and sky high oil pressure (see my recent post in the engien section for details)... but it seem's i was just suffering from stupidity and paranoia

so as it is the engine is wired in and running and it's pretty much ready to go for an mot, just gotta do a few odd jobs like wire in the rev counter, properly fit my oil pressure gauge and just a general tidy up. i still have to fit the G40 brake set up but i'm leaving that till after the mot just in case i fuck some thing up

so hopefully be in a position to stick it in for the mot towards the end of the week, it would be sooner but need to wait for pay day but at least it gives plenty of time to sort the last few bits.

in other news higgo vic is buying my other afh (from the mk3) to go in his other derby, club polo stanands next year are gonna be over run with AFH content

Fantastic, glad to hear your at a place where its almost all together now :)

I shall have a look to see what all the fuss was about now!

Fingers crossed it passes mot for you buddy, I hope mine does when it comes round to it!

I spotted vic had purchased it yesterday ;) I dont miss a thing buddy.

Roll on Action!!!

Bit of an update, been having problems with it running hot, the fan staying on for ages while struggling to get the temp down. Fitted a bigger rad and wired in a twin speed fan and gave it a good bleed, now the temp is behaving as it should, not getting hot and fan kicking in and working nicely. Finally the fears of a blown head gasket have been banished from my mind and I feel a shit load better about the car, today was a good day

Also wired in the rev counter and tidied up the interior wiring, tomorrow i'll be cleaning it inside and out and just giving it a once over ready for the mot... but I've now got another issue, the shocks have settled and now all the tyres scrub so I need to fit some other wheels for the mot, which I don't actually have at the min. If I've got enough cash this week i'll be replacing a fucked tyre on the power techs and running them on it sooner than planned

Any way sorry for rambling on, here's a photo of it looking just like it did a few weeks back when I last posted some pics

so happy for you mate, best of luck for the test

Good Luck with the MOT man

Looks awesome Guy didnt know you had this till now, not sure on retro venoms tho :)

Engine bay is looking nice and tidy!

Guy, I know you're a wee trek away from me, but I wanted to have a look at this, and I've got 2 pairs of coupe S steels, which you can borrow if need be to get it through its MOT.

Cheers jakey, venom were just some cheap wheels I had tyres for and were only going to be temp anyway. Are you coming polo show or action this year?

Much love! Powertechs, uww! your not aloud to fit them, they wouldnt look right. sell them or something? :-)

I would sell them but I can't think of anyone that would be interested in them.

as with most cars its still got a long way to go yet and should see a fair few changes once its on the road. Still got the coilies and g40 brakes to fit, got a choice of 3 sets of wheels to choose from for it and I've got a pretty cool 'theme' that I want to try out on it once the rear quarter has been repaired, I've also still got the broken afh which I fancy rebuilding to a 1.6 to go in this at some point, but the main thing atm is just to get it into a reliable daily so I can concentrate on getting the Chevette on the road before the working on car weather fucke off again

Cheers for the offer Karl but think I'm gonna be sorted wheels wise tomorrow. I think the next show i'll be at with this is the polo show if you want to look around it then? If you can't wait that long your more than welcome to come and have a look any time if your down this way

Def at the Polo Show mate prob all weekend not sure on action as skint to be honest :)

Good work buddy, love the venoms, when and if you come to part with them drop me a PM :).
